With the theme “Natural Products Innovation in the Age of AI”, the conference focused on research on the application of AI and digital technology in the discovery and development of natural compounds.
Participating in the conference, 3 students from Duy Tan University brought the topic "Formation of adventitious root biomass in Ngoc Linh ginseng, a rare medicinal herb of Vietnam". The group's topic focused on establishing a process for rapid multiplication of adventitious root biomass of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
This is a rare ginseng species containing the richest saponin content, with very high medicinal and economic value. However, due to harsh natural conditions and slow growth rate, Ngoc Linh ginseng is increasingly scarce. After presenting at the conference, the topic of 3 students was highly appreciated and awarded the Outstanding Poster Report Award.
Student Nguyen Tran Kim Long, Head of the research team, shared that the journey to carry out the project was a long and challenging process, especially in the field of Plant Cell Technology. With professional guidance and practical skills guidance from lecturers in Biotechnology, the team has gradually built a research foundation, designed experiments and focused on solving difficulties in the process of cultivating and propagating Ngoc Linh ginseng.
In which, the stage of field sampling, growth induction, environmental condition survey and development monitoring through each stage are considered the biggest challenges.
Directly responsible for the work of culturing samples and processing data, student Van Thi Kieu Nga is responsible for monitoring the growth process of plants through each cycle, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the output data. Thanks to her perseverance and smooth coordination with the team members, Nga has made many important contributions to completing a research with high practicality and scientific value.
In addition, student Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy promoted her strengths in data analysis and information visualization, helping to convey research results into vivid, easy-to-understand and accessible images. Thanks to effective coordination and promoting the individual abilities of each member, the group achieved overall success.
According to the research team, the process of cultivating Ngoc Linh ginseng roots requires a long time, an average of 2-3 months for each cycle, causing the implementation progress to be prolonged and requiring great patience. Many times, the team had to start over from the beginning because the results were not as expected. However, those failures became the motivation for the team to persevere in researching documents, adjusting methods and constantly looking for new solutions to improve and optimize the process.
Also participating in reporting another topic at the ASNP 2025 conference, and also being the instructor of the student group, Dr. Ho Thanh Tam, Head of the Department of Biotechnology, Research Officer of the Institute of Global Health Initiatives (Duy Tan University) expressed his joy and pride at the excellent achievements of the student group.
Mr. Tam shared that the students receiving awards at the ASNP 2025 conference is not only a testament to the research capacity of Duy Tan students, but also shows their maturity and confidence when standing on the same playing field with the world's leading scientists in the field of natural products and biotechnology. This is an encouraging result, affirming the school's right direction in training and inspiring students' passion for scientific research.
