With the theme "Natural Products Innovation in the Age of AI," the conference focused on research into the application of AI and digital technology in the discovery and development of natural compounds.
At the conference, three students from Duy Tan University presented their topic: "The Formation of Adventitious Root Biomass in Ngoc Linh Ginseng, a Rare and Valuable Medicinal Herb of Vietnam." The group's research focused on establishing a process for rapid propagation of Ngoc Linh ginseng adventitious root biomass.
This is a rare and precious ginseng species containing the highest concentration of saponins, possessing very high medicinal and economic value. However, due to harsh natural conditions and slow growth rate, Ngoc Linh ginseng is becoming increasingly scarce. After presenting at the conference, the topic of the three students was highly appreciated and awarded the Outstanding Poster Presentation prize.
Student Nguyen Tran Kim Long, the research team leader, shared that the journey to complete the project was a long and challenging process, especially in the field of plant cell technology. With professional guidance and practical skills training from lecturers in Biotechnology, the team gradually built a research foundation, designed experiments, and focused on solving difficulties in the cultivation and propagation of Ngoc Linh ginseng.
Of these, the most challenging stages were field sampling, growth induction, environmental condition surveying, and monitoring development through each stage.
Directly responsible for sample cultivation and data processing, student Van Thi Kieu Nga monitored the plant growth process through each cycle, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the output data. Thanks to her perseverance and seamless collaboration with group members, Nga made significant contributions to completing a research project with high practical and scientific value.
In addition, student Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy demonstrated her strengths in data analysis and information visualization, helping to translate research results into vivid, easy-to-understand, and accessible images. Thanks to effective collaboration and the utilization of each member's individual abilities, the entire group achieved overall success.
According to the research team, the process of cultivating Ngoc Linh ginseng roots requires a long time, averaging 2-3 months per cycle, which prolongs the implementation process and demands a high degree of patience. The team often had to start over because the results were not as expected. However, these failures became the motivation for the team to persevere in researching literature, adjusting methods, and constantly seeking new solutions to improve and optimize the process.
Also presenting another topic at the ASNP 2025 conference, and as the student group's supervisor, Dr. Ho Thanh Tam, Head of the Biotechnology Department and Research Officer at the Global Health Initiative Institute (Duy Tan University), expressed her joy and pride in the outstanding achievement of the student group.
Mr. Tam shared that the students' awards at the ASNP 2025 conference not only demonstrate the research capabilities of Duy Tan University students but also show their maturity and confidence in competing alongside leading scientists worldwide in the fields of natural products and biotechnology. This is an encouraging result, affirming the school's correct direction in training and fostering a passion for scientific research among students.
