According to Kyodo News Agency, with the increasing number of bear attacks on people in Japan, the "robot wolf" with glowing red eyes, howling and growling suddenly became a phenomenon, even attracting attention from abroad.
It is a product of the Ohta Seiki Mechanical Company in Hokkaido called Monster Wolf. The device works by infrared sensors, when detecting the appearance of animals, the robot immediately turns its head, its red eyes light up and emits a loud sound to scare them away.
The device is as loud as a car horn, with about 50 sounds played randomly, from animal howls to human voices, to prevent animals from getting used to and approaching. These sounds are generated using artificial intelligence and copyright-free sources.
When it was first released in 2016, Monster Wolf was ridiculed for its "silly" appearance, especially in the context of electric fences still being a popular farm protection measure.

However, after many trials and proving their effectiveness and ease of maintenance, there are now about 330 robots deployed across Japan, from farms to trails that warn of wild animals.
"Bears are very cautious and usually travel alone. When they hear loud noises, they think there is danger and stay away from that area," said Ohta Seiki President Yuji Ota.
Demand for Monster Wolf has tripled in recent times. Surprisingly, the device has also received interest from the international market, including about 10 requests from abroad, including a customer in India who asked "will the robot be effective with elephants?".
The company is currently developing other products such as the Wolf Mover - a remote-controlled device to repel bears and a handheld Monster Wolf version for hikers or campers.
