The People's Committee of Tay Ninh province has just issued a decision declaring a state of emergency due to riverbank erosion along the Can Duoc River, specifically the section passing through Hamlet 3 - Xom Tre, Tan Lan commune. The decision aims to proactively respond to and protect the lives and property of residents in the area.

According to a report by the Tay Ninh Department of Agriculture and Environment, erosion at the confluence of the Can Duoc and Muong Quynh rivers has been occurring since 2024, with a total eroded length of approximately 70m, extending about 10m inland, and reaching a depth of 4m compared to the original state.

The landslide completely swept away the temporary house and caused cracks and subsidence in the ground, seriously threatening the main house of one family. It is currently directly affecting four households with 16 people, including two families receiving government assistance. The cause of the landslide has been identified as the impact of water flow, high tides, combined with weak soil and strong currents, causing erosion and washing away of the soil beneath the canal, creating deep, gaping holes with steep slopes. The landslide is currently showing signs of further deterioration.

In response to the situation, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province, Nguyen Van Ut, requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the People's Committee of Tan Lan commune to urgently evacuate people and property from the dangerous area; erect warning signs and cordon off the area to prevent people and vehicles from entering the landslide zone; and assign officials to closely monitor the landslide situation.

Simultaneously, implement initial measures to mitigate landslides; organize the development of emergency response plans, approve these plans, and mobilize forces and materials for emergency response in accordance with the law to ensure the safety of people's lives and property, as well as state assets. Mobilize all resources to urgently address incidents affecting disaster prevention and control structures and construction projects caused by natural disasters.

Previously, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province also issued a decision declaring a state of emergency due to riverbank erosion along the Han Canal (Xom Cau intersection, Can Giuoc commune, Tay Ninh province). This area has experienced erosion for many years, with the land encroaching 1-2 meters inland each year, reaching approximately 30 meters to date. The erosion has caused 10 houses to collapse into the river; many trees, structures, and hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of soil have been swept away by the water.

Currently, the landslide area spans approximately 300 meters, directly affecting 10 households with 40 residents. Among them, four houses located near the riverbank are experiencing cracked walls and soil erosion. Despite repeated attempts by local authorities and residents to reinforce the landslide area with coconut piles, the erosion continues and is becoming increasingly severe. If not addressed promptly, the landslide will worsen in the future, especially during periods of heavy rain combined with high tides, posing a threat to the safety and property of residents in the area.
