In the quarter-finals of the women's team event in badminton, Nguyen Thuy Linh faced Karupathevan Letshanaa of Malaysia. This was a very difficult match for the Vietnamese player.

Thuy Linh hit the ball in the field but the referee ruled it out (Screenshot).
In the first set, Thuy Linh lost 15-21. In the second set, the Vietnamese player took the lead and won 21-10. The third set was very tense. Karupathevan Letshanaa had a chance to end the match when she had a match point (a point that could end the match) but Thuy Linh still played calmly and excellently took the lead and won 23-21.
In the end, Thuy Linh won 2-1 against her opponent from Malaysia. This was not only a difficult match for the 1997-born player in terms of technical skills, but also in terms of incorrect decisions from the referee.
In an interview after the match, Thuy Linh admitted that she was very upset when there were three controversial shots, which the referee had handled in favor of the Malaysian player. Not having the right to challenge (request the referee to review using technology) meant that Thuy Linh could not request a video review and was forced to accept the decision.

Thuy Linh complained about the referee's decision (Screenshot).
She shared: “I was very frustrated when, when I was chasing each point with the Malaysian player, the referee made incorrect decisions. If I had the right to challenge, I would have used it. There were two situations where my opponent hit the shuttlecock out a lot, but the referee decided it was in the court. In another situation, I was not sure if my shot was in the court or out, but the referee decided it was out. I think the referee was a bit biased towards my opponent.”
Talking about the difficult times, Thuy Linh said: “When the scores were even, I had to keep myself from losing focus. In the third set, I tried to stay calm because when I was on the side of the court that was not affected by the wind, I could confidently attack.”
Thuy Linh also thanked the fans for their support: “I am always grateful to those who have accompanied me throughout the past time, even when I was injured. That is a great motivation for me to continue competing.”
Although Thuy Linh won, the Vietnamese women's badminton team was still eliminated in the quarter-finals of the SEA Games team event after losing 1-3 to Malaysia. After this event, Thuy Linh will compete in the women's singles event.
