According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , on the morning of December 8, on the occasion of co-chairing the opening ceremony of the Tan Nam (Tay Ninh province) - Meun Chey (Prey Veng province, Cambodia) international border gate, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet had talks to evaluate the results of cooperation achieved in the past time and discuss measures to promote bilateral relations in the coming time.
Discussing the Cambodia-Thailand border tension, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always pays attention to and closely follows the situation and will continue to contribute to peaceful solutions to resolve the tension.
The head of the Vietnamese Government called on Thailand and Cambodia to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, respect each other's legitimate interests and comply with the peace agreement.
Vietnam always values and supports efforts to resolve all disagreements by peaceful means; believes that long-term stability is the best solution for both Cambodia and Thailand, for ASEAN solidarity, for a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developing environment in the region and the world.

On the basis of the achievements and with high determination, the two sides unanimously agreed to closely coordinate to develop the bilateral relationship more strongly, focusing on increasing high-level contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels and channels, promoting existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms; and consolidating defense and security cooperation.
The two sides agreed to focus on creating breakthroughs in economic cooperation, increasing connectivity and connection between the two economies, including cooperation in digital economic development, infrastructure connection and policy institutional connection, especially in the fields of trade, investment, transportation, culture and tourism; speeding up the connection of transport infrastructure and logistics, and developing border gates and border trade infrastructure;
Strive to bring bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion USD soon in the coming time.
In order to foster and preserve the historical value of the relationship, the two Prime Ministers highlighted the significance to the two countries and people of coordinating to widely disseminate the tradition of solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia to all classes of people of the two countries, especially the young generation, while enhancing people-to-people exchanges in new forms.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to support Cambodia in improving the quality of human resources and increasing training scholarships.
The two Prime Ministers stressed the importance of maintaining a peaceful, stable, cooperative and sustainably developed border between the two countries; affirmed to continue coordinating to properly and promptly handle arising issues, including sustainable environmental protection in border areas.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also asked the Cambodian side to continue paying attention to resolving the issue of legal status so that people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia can stabilize their lives and make positive contributions to the prosperous development of Cambodia and the friendly relations between the two countries.
On December 8, in response to a reporter's question about Vietnam's reaction to the tense developments that have broken out between Cambodia and Thailand in the border area between the two countries, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated: Vietnam expressed deep concern about the current tense developments between Cambodia and Thailand.
As a neighboring country and a fellow member of ASEAN, Vietnam calls on both sides to exercise utmost restraint, not to use force, fully implement the ceasefire agreement, continue dialogue, peacefully and satisfactorily resolve disagreements on the basis of fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Vietnam will continue to actively contribute to promoting dialogue and implementing the ceasefire agreement between the two countries to soon restore peace and cooperation on the border in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the long-term interests of both sides and the region.
