Information about increasing health insurance premiums from July 1, 2025 is incorrect.

Recently, on some social networking platforms, information has appeared that the health insurance contribution rate will increase from 4.5% to 6% from July 1, 2025. Regarding this content, Vietnam Social Security affirms: Currently, there are no regulations on adjusting the health insurance contribution rate to increase to 6% from the above-mentioned time.

Article 13 of Law No. 51/2024/QH15 amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Health Insurance stipulates: The health insurance contribution rate of participating groups can be up to 6% of the monthly salary used as the basis for compulsory social insurance contributions or the reference level... However, this is not an immediately applicable level, but only the maximum ceiling of the contribution rate allowed within the legal framework. Depending on specific conditions, when necessary, the Government will consider adjusting the appropriate contribution rate to ensure the rights of participants and balance the Health Insurance Fund in the long term.

Inaccurate information about increasing family health insurance premiums is spreading on social networking sites.

Currently, the health insurance contribution rate remains at 4.5% of the basic salary (the current basic salary is 2,340,000 VND/month). If there is any adjustment to the contribution rate, the Government will issue a Decree to implement it. Therefore, the information that the contribution rate will increase to 6% from July 1, 2025 is inaccurate, causing confusion among the public.

People should note: In case people participating in family health insurance are required to pay higher than 4.5% of the basic salary, they need to request the organization or individual collecting health insurance to provide a clear legal basis, especially the Decree related to adjusting the Government's contribution level.

Currently, the Ministry of Health is presiding over the drafting of a Decree guiding the implementation of Law No. 51/2024/QH15. While waiting for the official guidance document to be issued, the social insurance agency recommends that people and employees should only access information from official sources such as: the Government's Electronic Information Portal, the Ministry of Health, Vietnam Social Security and central and local news agencies and newspapers.
