Tran Huu Thinh, a student from Hung Nhan High School in Hung Yen province (formerly Thai Binh province), is one of the eight top-scoring students nationwide in the A00 group (mathematics, physics, chemistry) in the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Thinh said that when he found out he was the valedictorian, he was very surprised and jumped up with joy.
"My father passed away when I was in third grade. When I found out my exam results, I was very emotional. The first thing I did was light incense to share the good news with my father," Thinh confided.
According to Thinh, to do well on the exam, one must first have a solid foundation of knowledge and a strong mindset to handle all situations presented in the exam.
"The math exam had two of the most difficult questions: one on classical probability and another on arithmetic probability. I was confused because this knowledge was from the 10th and 11th grades," Thinh recalled. He finished the math exam in the 75th minute.
Sharing more about his studies, Thinh said that in 12th grade he mainly studied at home and found exam questions online to practice and solve types of problems he had never encountered before.
Ms. Dang Thi Thu Huyen, Thinh's homeroom teacher, expressed her joy and pride that Thinh is the first student from Hung Nhan High School to achieve the highest score nationwide in the A00 subject combination.
"When Thinh came home from the exam, he told me he expected to get a perfect score, so when I heard he was the top scorer, I wasn't too surprised. I only feel relieved today after knowing the official score," she said.
In her eyes, Thinh was a well-behaved student, sociable with his friends, and highly motivated in his studies, especially during the final stages of preparation when he showed great effort and determination. Three perfect scores of 10 were a well-deserved reward for all the effort Thinh had put in.
According to Ms. Huyen, Thinh also won second prize in the provincial-level chemistry competition for gifted students.
"Mom is my motivation."
"Thinh is a good student, but I'm still surprised by this result," said Nguyen Thi Xem (48 years old), Thinh's mother, happily upon hearing the news that Thinh was the top student nationwide.
Ms. Xem said that Thinh's father passed away early. She raised three children on her own. Her eldest son, out of love for his mother, dropped out of school after completing 12th grade to start working. Thinh's second son is currently studying at a university in Hanoi .
"In the days leading up to the graduation exams, Thinh kept mentioning his father, asking him to bless him so he could do well. All I could do was encourage my children to study hard," Mrs. Xem said.
Thịnh said that his mother is the motivation for him to study hard, find a stable job later, and help support her.
Thinh plans to apply for the semiconductor technology program at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
