Tran Huu Thinh, a student at Hung Nhan High School, Hung Yen province (formerly Thai Binh province), is one of the eight national valedictorians of block A00 (math, physics, chemistry) in the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Thinh said when he found out he was valedictorian, he was very surprised and jumped for joy.
"My father passed away when I was in third grade. When I found out my exam results, I was very emotional. The first thing I did was burn incense to tell my father the good news," Thinh confided.
According to Thinh, to do well on the test, you must first equip yourself with solid knowledge and have a stable mentality to handle all situations in the test.
"The math test had two most difficult questions, including a question about classical probability and a probability question about arithmetic progressions. I was confused because this knowledge falls into the 10th and 11th grade," Thinh recalled. He finished the math test in the 75th minute.
Sharing more about his studies, Thinh said that in 12th grade he mainly studied at home and searched for test questions online to practice and solve problems he had never encountered before.
Ms. Dang Thi Thu Huyen, Thinh's homeroom teacher, expressed her joy and pride when Thinh was the first student of Hung Nhan High School to be the national valedictorian in the A00 group.
"When he came back from the exam, Thinh told me he expected to get a perfect score, so when I heard he was valedictorian, I wasn't too surprised. Today, when I heard the official score, I felt reassured," she said.
In her eyes, Thinh is a good student, gets along well with friends, has a high sense of learning, especially in the final stage, he tries very hard and is determined. 3 points of 10 is a worthy result for what Thinh has put in.
According to Ms. Huyen, Thinh won second prize in the provincial chemistry competition.
"Mother is the motivation"
"Thinh studied well, but I was also surprised with this result," said Nguyen Thi Xem (48 years old), Thinh's mother, happily hearing the news that Thinh was the national valedictorian.
Ms. Xem said that Thinh's father died early. She raised 3 children by herself. The eldest child, out of love for his mother, dropped out of school after 12th grade to work. Thinh's second brother is studying at a university in Hanoi .
"In the days leading up to the graduation exam, Thinh kept reminding his father, asking him to bless him to do well on the exam. I could only encourage my children to try hard in their studies," said Ms. Xem.
Thinh said his mother is the motivation for him to try to study well, then find a stable job and help his mother.
Thinh plans to apply for the semiconductor technology major at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
