In his opening remarks at the conference, Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai stated that, in the current context, the global and regional situation is complex and unpredictable, directly affecting the entire world, including Vietnam and the Central Highlands region.

In Vietnam, many businesses are currently facing a shortage of orders and outlets, causing significant difficulties for both large and small enterprises. "The job of trade promotion agencies is to help and support businesses overcome these difficulties. This is also the main task of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and of trade promotion agencies," said Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai.

According to Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai, the domestic market is facing many difficulties, with reduced purchasing power leading to decreased sales for businesses. This is why it is necessary to organize programs connecting manufacturers with domestic and export distribution channels. “Never before has Vietnam’s export growth been so low in the first quarter and the first four months of the year. This is very alarming.”

"One of the measures and tasks that the Government has assigned to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and trade promotion units is to support businesses in performing their best in import and export activities as well as the domestic market," Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai emphasized and suggested that at the Conference, in addition to professional content, localities should clearly state the difficulties and obstacles, and propose recommendations to help support businesses in selling products, connecting supply and demand not only within the locality but also in the Central - Central Highlands region as well as nationwide, and for export.

“Local authorities must have frank and direct discussions, addressing issues directly; and make specific proposals and recommendations. For units under the Trade Promotion Department, they must identify what the Central and Central Highlands regions need and what needs to be done,” Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai suggested, adding, “Trade promotion units must recognize the crucial role of trade promotion and the responsibilities of those involved. In reality, this means finding markets; and fostering connections between producers and consumers, both domestically and internationally.”

Regarding the trade promotion activities in the Central and Central Highlands regions in 2022, Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Department, stated that 2022 and the first months of 2023 witnessed many difficulties and challenges. In this context, the system of trade promotion agencies nationwide, in coordination with the Trade Promotion Department, proactively and creatively implemented timely and effective solutions to overcome difficulties, support businesses in recovering and developing production and business, support the connection of supply and demand for goods, and maintain and strengthen trade promotion activities to boost domestic and export trade.

During the year, the trade promotion agency system implemented more than 755 trade promotion projects, achieving 82% of the plan. The total budget allocated for trade promotion activities in 2022 by local trade promotion centers exceeded 250 billion VND; the estimated expenditure for the year was 199 billion VND, supporting more than 15,000 businesses in promoting products and developing markets. The value of contracts and transactions at these events reached nearly 300 billion VND and 20 million USD in export orders.

In the first months of 2023, localities nationwide, and particularly in the Central and Central Highlands regions, guided and organized local businesses to participate in major domestic and international trade promotion events. These included introducing local businesses to major specialized trade fairs and exhibitions in the EU (Biofach Fair, Fruit Logistica Fair, Global Seafood Fair, Hannover Messe Industrial Fair, etc.), the Middle East (Gulfood Food Fair, Leather and Footwear Fair, etc.), the US (Boston Seafood Fair), Japan (Foodex Fair), international industry conferences, and connecting local suppliers with foreign importers and export buyers.

Activities from the beginning of the year until now demonstrate a resurgence of trade promotion activities and contribute to supporting businesses in overcoming market difficulties in recent months.
