However, this rapid development also creates an urgent need for high-quality human resources with professional skills and the ability to adapt to the digital market.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam E-commerce Association:
Personnel in rural and mountainous areas still have limited soft skills.

In the era of digital transformation, e-commerce is gradually becoming a crucial pillar of the economy , contributing to sustainable growth and expanding market access opportunities, especially in previously disadvantaged areas such as rural, mountainous, border, and island regions.

These regions possess great potential with abundant resources, yet the local population's in-depth understanding of e-commerce remains limited. They need specific guidance, from selling on e-commerce platforms and pricing products to order processing and customer service. Therefore, in addition to publishing guidebooks, it is necessary to develop intelligent support tools – such as AI e-commerce assistants – to help small and micro-businesses in rural areas interact directly, receive step-by-step guidance, and access knowledge easily and completely free of charge.

Currently, as businesses expand their recruitment from rural, mountainous, and island areas, we observe that many young people possess a strong desire to learn and embrace innovation, but still lack soft skills. In particular, communication skills, customer service skills, office skills, and computer proficiency remain common weaknesses.

To address this issue, we have implemented various recruitment and training solutions right in the local area. For example, at our manufacturing plants in the western region, in addition to building a workforce to support production, we have also formed a dedicated e-commerce team on-site. This approach helps students and local workers gain practical experience, develop digital and e-commerce skills, and contribute to building a high-quality workforce to serve the sustainable development of rural and remote areas.

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, CEO of Shopee Vietnam:
Shopee strengthens partnerships and supports businesses in accessing advanced forms of commerce.

The Vietnamese market possesses many unique advantages, such as the lowest internet access costs in Southeast Asia, a large population, rapid access to new products, and rising incomes. This means that consumers in all regions can easily access online products and services – creating a favorable foundation for the development of all technologies related to e-commerce.

Besides market potential, customer experience, complaint resolution, and consumer protection are vital factors for e-commerce businesses, especially Shopee. We have invested heavily in the Vietnamese market, building control mechanisms and improving the user experience, such as shortening delivery times and increasing customer trust and peace of mind. Simultaneously, we look forward to receiving specific guidance and support from ministries, departments, and local authorities during the implementation of our operations.

In Vietnam, Shopee is collaborating with numerous businesses, including many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We implement support programs to help them access e-commerce more easily through skills training courses, guidance on using tools, and effective operation on digital platforms. As a result, businesses can access advanced business models and gradually achieve more stable and sustainable growth.

Currently, we focus on supporting domestic manufacturers while collaborating with export businesses to first expand the domestic market. Manufacturers can concentrate on production, while Shopee handles operations and product promotion. This model has yielded positive results, helping many businesses enhance their competitiveness. In the future, we will continue to support Vietnamese businesses in expanding into international markets, starting with Southeast Asia, and further expanding to other potential markets.

Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lan, owner of a fashion business located at 24 Dai Mo Street, Tu Liem Ward:
The ideal business model for small businesses.

Despite its immense potential, many businesses, even those long-standing ones, still experience low sales. The primary reasons stem from fragmented purchasing patterns and over-reliance on promotions. Therefore, businesses need to support customers throughout the entire process – from product searching and consideration to the final purchase decision – while maintaining regular interaction. Focusing solely on promotions without a long-term engagement strategy will make customer retention very difficult.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, my business primarily sold goods through traditional methods, specifically wholesale to traders at major markets. However, after the pandemic, realizing this model was no longer suitable, I began researching e-commerce platforms. Around the same time, Shopee invited me to participate in their program "Digital Transformation for Vietnamese Businesses through E-commerce." Recognizing this as a good opportunity, my company decided to join.

This model is really suitable for small businesses, as Shopee provides a full range of services from sales and marketing to shipping. Thanks to this, we can focus on production and improving product quality.

My company is currently working closely with Shopee to distribute our products to the market. In the future, we aim to expand into regional and international markets. The Shopee team is also introducing an online export program to support bringing local products to international e-commerce platforms.
