''I always want to contribute to improving working conditions for workers''

Steel production and trading is a particularly arduous and demanding profession. Workers in steel rolling mills always have to work in hot conditions. In businesses with modern technology, the labor is reduced. However, for businesses and factories that have been operating for many years, the difficulties and hardships are multiplied many times over.

Engineer Pham Xuan Huy

Having worked for over 20 years at the Luu Xa Steel Rolling Mill – Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company, engineer Pham Xuan Huy – Team Leader of the Rolling Mill Turning Team, Rolling Workshop, Luu Xa Steel Rolling Mill – understands the hardships of the workers better than anyone else. Therefore, throughout his career, he has always aspired to contribute to improving working conditions for employees, reducing manual labor, and enhancing mechanization and automation in production.

“ The older the production line, the more difficult it becomes, and the more workers want to improve it to reduce labor, apply science and technology to production for efficiency, and increase productivity. Therefore, the factory leadership pays special attention, especially to environmental initiatives. Each workshop has a support team; workers propose ideas, and the support team helps write proposals so that initiatives can be implemented. Thanks to this, the emulation movement has been very well maintained over the years. This is a good condition that helps us strive to find initiatives, bring about work efficiency, and improve the working conditions of our colleagues, ” said engineer Pham Xuan Huy.

Driven by these concerns, during the production process, he constantly sought solutions to improve work efficiency. While working and adjusting technology, based on his practical experience, he proposed many technical improvement suggestions and initiatives to the company to increase labor productivity and save raw materials and fuel. These initiatives were developed and implemented in production, yielding high efficiency. Among the many initiatives he proposed, some focused on minimizing the physical labor of workers.

A typical example is the initiative "Designing and manufacturing a mechanism for scraping off defective 50x50 workpiece ends." Based on the reality that after cutting and removing defective 50x50 workpiece sections, workers operating the 150T cutting machine had to manually pull the scraped end section down into the waste container using a long steel rod as a hook after passing through the first rolling stand, which was quite laborious, the design idea was to apply automation so that the worker operating the 50x50 workpiece cutting machine would control the steering lock, and the scraping mechanism would operate through the piston's stroke. This not only improves working conditions for workers but also enhances the mechanization and automation capabilities in production.

As the team leader of the Rolling Mill Turning Team in the Rolling Mill Workshop, engineer Pham Xuan Huy not only "dares to think and dares to act," but also always cooperates with his fellow workers in the team to overcome all difficulties to successfully complete assigned tasks; he investigates and researches inefficiencies in production, determined to come up with reasonable solutions for the production process.

He and his colleagues always strive to improve the team's training through various methods, such as: assigning highly skilled technicians to mentor lower-skilled workers to ensure productivity and product quality are not affected; proposing to the relevant department to open training classes on operating CNC groove milling machines, molybdenum wire cutting machines, and CNC lathes for 18 workers in the factory; mentoring 12 workers to ensure timely skill advancement; and mentoring 4 workers participating in the company's annual skilled worker selection competition.

Thanks to his tireless efforts, engineer Pham Xuan Huy has received numerous commendations from Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Company, the Trade Union of Industry and Trade, and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor . In 2023, he was honored to receive the 4th Nguyen Duc Canh Award.

Speaking of Pham Xuan Huy, his colleagues at the Luu Xa Steel Rolling Mill always express their respect and affection. Not only is he a skilled and dedicated engineer, but many of his initiatives are focused on the workers, contributing to increased efficiency and reduced labor. As a result, workers are less burdened and more committed to the company.
