The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just completed a draft proposal to waive tuition fees for students starting from the 2025-2026 school year.
Specifically, the draft resolution concerns a special policy to support tuition fees for preschool children, public and private high school students, and high school continuing education students starting from the 2025-2026 school year.
Accordingly, the department proposes a specific policy to support tuition fees for preschool children, public and private high school students, and high school continuing education students in Ho Chi Minh City from the 2025-2026 school year (excluding students studying at educational institutions with foreign investment).
Specifically, the support level is the tuition fee applied to preschool children and high school students studying at public general education institutions that are not self-sufficient in covering their operating expenses, in accordance with Resolution No. 12/2024/NQ-HĐND dated July 16, 2024, of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council on regulating tuition fees for public preschool and general education from the 2024-2025 school year and subsequent school years in Ho Chi Minh City.
Specifically, as follows:
This tuition subsidy is equivalent to the tuition fees that students currently have to pay.
+ Group 1: Students studying at schools in Thu Duc City and the following districts: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan.
+ Group 2: Students studying at schools in the districts of Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be, and Can Gio.
Effective date: From the 2025-2026 school year.
The estimated budget for implementing the policy in the 2025-2026 school year is 338 billion VND (public schools: 277 billion VND, private schools: 61 billion VND).
Free tuition is a gift.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that currently, primary school students in public schools, 5-year-old preschool children, and junior high school students in the city are exempt from tuition fees. Therefore, only preschool children under 5 years old and high school students are required to pay tuition fees according to regulations.
Waiving tuition fees would be a meaningful and practical gift for all students in the city, marking a significant milestone in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country.
