North Korea claims to have discovered fragments of a South Korean military drone, issuing a warning.

"Based on the drone's shape, expected flight time, and the leaflet dispenser attached to the underside of the drone... it is highly likely that this drone is the same one that dropped leaflets in downtown Pyongyang. However, no conclusion has been reached yet," the North Korean news agency KCNA wrote.

The remains of a crashed drone are shown in a photograph released by North Korean state news agency KCNA on October 19.

The South Korean government had previously declined to specify whether it used such UAVs, and if so, whether they were operated by its military or civilians. The South Korean government said that commenting on North Korea's claims would draw it into a conspiracy, according to AFP.

"...if a violation of North Korea's territorial waters, land, air, and sea by South Korean military means is detected and confirmed again, that act will be considered a serious military provocation against North Korea's sovereignty and a declaration of war, and an immediate retaliatory attack will be launched," KCNA added.

North Korea detonates explosives on cross-border railway; South Korean military fires warning shots.

There is currently no information on South Korea's reaction to the new warning from North Korea. On October 14, Lee Seong-joon, spokesperson for the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), stated at a press conference: "Our military is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to respond to any provocations from North Korea."

Tensions between South Korea and North Korea have escalated since North Korea began releasing balloons carrying garbage across the border into South Korea in late May, with Seoul responding by restarting its propaganda broadcasts via loudspeakers, angering Pyongyang, according to AFP.
