"China is willing to push the international community to form the greatest common denominator to resolve the Ukraine crisis, and make its own efforts to stop fighting, establish a ceasefire and restore peace as soon as possible," the Chinese Foreign Ministry statement said.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told Mr Li earlier on Wednesday that Kiev would not accept any proposals to end the conflict that would involve losing territory or freezing the conflict.

Mr. Li, a former Chinese ambassador to Russia, will also visit Poland, France, Germany and finally Russia during his multi-day tour of Europe. He is the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Ukraine since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022.

During Li's visit to Kiev, bilateral relations between the two countries were also discussed and both sides agreed to work together to maintain mutual respect and continue to move forward with win-win cooperation, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

Both sides agreed that the recent phone call between President Xi Jinping and Zelenskyy pointed out the direction for the development of relations between the two countries, as well as the direction for ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict through diplomatic and political solutions.
