Phuong Dung (real name Nguyen Phan Phuong Dung, born in 1946), started her singing career in 1959 when she was only 13 years old. From Go Cong, Phuong Dung went to Saigon to participate in a singer selection contest of Saigon Radio, in which musician Thanh Son was very satisfied when he gave high scores to this new voice. Phuong Dung was awarded the gold medal for female singers in 1965, and from then on, poet Kien Giang Ha Huy Ha gave Phuong Dung the nickname "White Swallow of Go Cong". Singer Giao Linh (real name Do Thi Sinh, born in 1949) was given the nickname "Queen of Sorrow" by the Saigon press before 1975 because of her sad singing voice and performance style.
