Speaking at the ceremony, artist Luong Xuan Doan, Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, affirmed: “Voc Thu” shows the maturity and courage of a young artist who dares to choose a difficult path. According to him, the most notable thing about Chu Nhat Quang is not his professional capacity, but also his confidence, courage and the way he dialogues with tradition in his own voice. “Quang brings a different voice to contemporary Vietnamese art. We see in the artist confidence, depth and a distinct artistic personality. This is very necessary in the current context, when artists not only create but also have to constantly dig deep to establish their identity.”

Recalling the great works that Chu Nhat Quang had done, especially the work "Uncle Ho reading the Declaration of Independence" which won the Guinness World Record, the Chairman of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association said that the fact that a young artist spent 7 years with his colleagues to create a giant lacquer painting weighing more than 3 tons shows a rare spirit of serious work and dedication.

Painter Luong Xuan Doan said that the Vietnam Fine Arts Association has decided to specially admit Chu Nhat Quang into the Association and award him the Medal “For the Cause of Vietnamese Fine Arts” to recognize his contributions. According to him, this recognition is to encourage his efforts and dedication to art, and at the same time wants to send a message to the younger generation about the responsibility to preserve the nation's lacquer heritage.

At the contemporary art space “Voc Thu”, the licensing activity for interested units and individuals has attracted attention when 2 paintings by author Chu Nhat Quang were traded at a significant price. The work “Linh” was purchased by Mr. Do Tuan Anh, CEO of Appota, for 1 billion VND. He said that this is not a financial investment but a gratitude for the artist and his efforts over many years. “The work of the technology industry is inherently dry. When we came into contact with lacquer and Quang's creative process, we realized that behind it is a form of technique at the level of art,” Mr. Tuan Anh shared.

Meanwhile, the work “Tinh Huong”, a painting depicting the image of a Zen master under the moonlight on lotus leaves, was purchased by Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, General Director of Hunmed Pharmaceutical Company, for 100,000 USD. Mr. Hung shared that his impression came from the purity and tranquility that the work evoked, and also said that he had followed the creative journey of the group of authors for 7 years from the project “Dau Thieng” and appreciated the spiritual values they were pursuing.

Sharing at the exhibition space, artist Chu Nhat Quang affirmed that the event “Voc Thu” is an important milestone in his creative journey, but today’s success belongs to those who have accompanied him through many years of hard work. For Quang, Vietnamese lacquer is attractive because of its unique beauty and elaborate techniques, requiring perseverance that no other material can replace.

When asked what makes the two works “Linh” and “Tinh Huong” convincing to buyers, he said that the attraction lies in 3 factors: the dense Vietnamese spirit, the depth of philosophy and the mastery of lacquer techniques. “Linh” was created in 8 months, inspired by peaceful memories in a sacred space and the image of people rowing boats under the Vietnamese dragon. “Tinh Huong” was made in more than 2 years, of which the body took nearly 3 months to complete. According to Quang, each layer of material requires a waiting process, and it is this patience that gives the work its special depth.

Talking about the high price his paintings fetched in their first sale, Quang said he did not feel pressured. “My family has never painted to sell. We paint for the desire to contribute.” He also said that all the money from the sale of his paintings will be used for art projects, buying materials for new paintings, maintaining painting classes for autistic children, supporting children in mountainous areas and the AI project to detect autism early that his family has been pursuing for many years.

Chu Nhat Quang admits that each of his works bears the mark of three generations of his family: his grandfather is People's Artist Chu Manh Chan, his father is Meritorious Artist Chu Luong and his brother-in-law is painter Nguyen Thanh Tung. They passed on to him perseverance, love of lacquer and unlimited creativity.

Regarding his latest project, he is working on a series of paintings “Portraits of President Ho Chi Minh through the ages”, combining traditional techniques and new experimental forms, aiming to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the implementation of his Testament. He believes that when artists have a deep understanding of the material, cultural roots and emotional honesty, the work will naturally find its voice with the domestic and international public.

Painter Luong Xuan Doan assessed that “Voc Thu” is not an ordinary exhibition but an invitation to dialogue between the public and the artist. According to him, contemporary Vietnamese fine arts are changing every day and need young factors like Chu Nhat Quang to bring Vietnamese lacquer to a worthy position on the international map. From such journeys, the lacquer heritage will continue to be renewed with the creative spirit and seriousness of the new generation.

“Voc Thu” has marked another remarkable movement of Vietnamese lacquer in the current art scene. The appearance of this space shows that the public is increasingly interested in creative projects based on traditional materials, and also affirms the active participation of young artists in expanding the limits of expression. “Voc Thu” has therefore become a new highlight, showing the ability of Vietnamese lacquer to create stories with strong influence in the context of contemporary art.
