On October 24, a working delegation from the Ministry of Health led by Mr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, visited Nghe An General Hospital to visit and encourage nurses and patients injured in the attack that occurred at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital on the morning of October 23.
Doctors put the patient's life above all else.
During the visit, the delegation expressed their condolences, encouragement and commended the bravery of the nurses who, regardless of danger, bravely rushed into the struggle with the subject to save the newborn baby's life.
"The doctors and nurses acted with the instinct of a physician, putting the patient's life above their own safety. That is the noblest spirit of the medical profession," Mr. Duc said emotionally.
Mr. Duc emphasized: "Abusive behavior towards medical staff is unacceptable. This is a wake-up call about security in hospitals. Medical staff, the white-coat soldiers, have only one wish: to save people. Therefore, they must work in a safe environment, protected by law and society."
He also said that Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan has directly instructed the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to coordinate with police agencies and local authorities to clarify the incident and strictly handle the subject who attacked the medical staff.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health is reviewing all security work in hospitals, especially in sensitive areas such as emergency rooms, neonatal and psychiatric rooms...
Recalling the incident, Mr. Duc said that most previous assaults on medical staff often occurred in emergency areas, where work pressure and the emotions of patients' families were high.
However, this time the incident happened right in the neonatal ward, a seemingly "safe" place.
Mr. Dinh Anh Tuan - Director of the Department of Mothers and Children - also said that this incident is a lesson about the need to better protect medical staff, especially those working in the newborn and maternity care area - which should be an "absolutely safe zone".
"I call on society to strongly condemn acts of violence, and continue to encourage and motivate exemplary medical practitioners, those who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of patients," said Mr. Tuan.
Ms. Le Thi Hoai Chung, Director of Nghe An Department of Health, said that immediately after the incident, the department directed units to urgently deploy emergency work, care for and stabilize the health of the victims. At the same time, coordinate with the police to investigate and strengthen measures to ensure the safety of medical staff at the hospital. Currently, the health of the victims has gradually stabilized.
Strengthening emergency alarm systems in hospitals
According to Mr. Duc, the health sector has repeatedly proposed setting up an emergency alarm system (hotline) in hospitals. "In case of an unusual situation, just press the button and the security force or police will be there within minutes," he said.
The Ministry of Health has directed the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security and People's Committees of provinces and cities to review all security work at medical examination and treatment facilities.
At the same time, it is recommended that localities arrange professional security forces at provincial and central hospitals, strengthen surveillance camera systems and security control gates, along with solutions to provide psychological support and legal protection for medical staff who are abused while on duty.
"Every hospital must be a safe zone for patients and doctors," Mr. Duc emphasized.
Praising 8 brave medical staff for saving sick children and their families
On the afternoon of October 24, the director of Nghe An Department of Health awarded Certificates of Merit to 8 medical staff, including Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhung, Nguyen Thuy Trang, Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai, Tran Thi Hong, Nguyen Thi Hong, Phan Thi Oanh, Luu Xuan Dung and Tran Kim Quyen for their brave actions in preventing and protecting the safety of patients, patients' relatives and colleagues in an emergency situation.
