On June 6th, the Indonesian national team began reassembling to prepare for two friendly matches in June against Palestine and Argentina.
Mr. Sumardji was angry with the Indonesian players.
However, on the first day, only eight players showed up at the Indonesian national team's headquarters: Sandy Walsh, Andy Setyo, Rafael Struick, Ivar Jenner, Syahrul Trisna, Dendy Sulistyawan, Fachruddin Aryanto, and Dimas Drajad.
The Indonesian national team players gave many reasons for not yet joining the training camp, such as family matters, not yet having returned from Europe, or being on vacation.
Upon learning that only one-third of the players had joined the training camp, the head of the Indonesian national team delegation, Sumardji, was extremely angry.
The head of the Indonesian team believes this is a very unprofessional act by the players.
“Today is the team’s first training session. We will be playing against Palestine (June 14th) and Argentina (June 19th). But so far, only 8 players have participated.”
Some players have reported arriving later. Four players from Persib Bandung will arrive on June 7th. Stefano Lilipaly will also arrive tomorrow. Meanwhile, Elkan Baggott and Saddil Ramdani will join the team on June 8th.
"I'm not happy with this, it's very difficult to accept. I was assigned to supervise and carry out tasks on the field. But if things continue like this, everything will be difficult, especially for the coaching staff," Sumardji said on June 6.
Meanwhile, Andy Setyo, one of the few Indonesian players to join the squad on schedule, shared some noteworthy insights about the team's goals during the FIFA Day in June.
"Our goal is to win both matches against Palestine and Argentina. Hopefully, the whole team will deliver their best performances."
"Personally, I feel happy that the coach trusts me and has called me up to the Indonesian national team. I will do my best in the next two matches," said Andy Setyo.
