At the conference summarizing the virtual filtering work of the Southern group and organizing the 2025 capacity assessment exam on the afternoon of December 5, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Cao Vinh, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that in the recent university entrance exam, the Southern virtual filtering group processed more than 1.59 million applications - the largest scale ever, with an average virtual rate of up to 172%.
In 15 virtual filtering sessions, the total number of successful admission wishes submitted to the system reached an average of over 890,000, an increase of 41.27% compared to the level of 630,000 in 2024, showing a trend of expanding the scale of candidate data and admission.
In 2025, the Southern virtual filtering group will maintain 87 participating schools, with a total enrollment target of 301,253. After the Ministry's virtual filtering rounds, the average number of successful applicants will be 370,000 (123%).
Comparing the results, the average virtual wish size per filtering session of the group is 520,000, while on the Ministry's system it is only about 56,000. Thus, the overall virtual rate of the Southern group reached 172.52%, nearly double the 90.16% of 2024. This number reflects that the number of virtual wishes between schools is still very high, forcing the system to perform multiple filtering rounds to reduce errors.

According to Ho Chi Minh City National University, the year 2025 will have special characteristics such as a sharp increase in wishes, diverse admission methods, leading to a high virtual rate and slow convergence process. Increasing the number of filters is reasonable to ensure accurate results but puts pressure on human resources and communication.
Virtual filtering also has some limitations such as the large number of wishes and diverse methods leading to a high virtual rate; implementation capacity has differences between units, and this work is under pressure in terms of time and communication.
The Southern Virtual Filtering Group consists of universities, academies and colleges in the Southern region that voluntarily participate to coordinate the implementation of the virtual filtering process of admission wishes on the General Admission Support System of the Ministry of Education and Training. Ho Chi Minh City National University plays the role of coordinator and technical support. The group has an Executive Board to direct and unify activities, along with the Technical Team and Secretariat Team responsible for supporting software operations.
Member schools register to participate by sending a written confirmation to the Executive Board and commit to complying with the general principles, regulations and virtual filtering process. The group agrees to use the admission application data on the System and related data provided by the Ministry of Education and Training as the main basis, while complying with current admission regulations; each school still has the autonomy to determine admission criteria.
The group uses virtual filtering software supported by the Ministry of Education and Training to process candidates who have been admitted to a higher choice at a school in the group, helping the admission units to be effective and reduce the rate of virtual candidates. Member schools are completely autonomous and responsible for adjusting the admission rate and determining the benchmark score for each major, group of majors or programs. The group only performs virtual filtering based on the list of candidates expected to be admitted and does not require schools to provide the admission rate or benchmark score.
