(Dan Tri) - Vietnam strongly protests all activities that violate sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago, in response to information that China is deploying military equipment on Tri Ton island.
On the afternoon of October 31, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Spokesperson Doan Khac Viet answered questions related to the information that China deployed military equipment on Tri Ton Island in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago. According to Mr. Viet, Vietnam is extremely concerned about this information. Vietnam strongly opposes all activities that violate sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago. Mr. Viet also said that Vietnam is determined to protect its sovereignty by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Regarding the attack on Vietnamese fishermen by Chinese authorities, Mr. Viet affirmed that Hoang Sa belongs to Vietnam, which has been repeated many times. The illegal arrest of Vietnamese fishing boats and fishermen by Chinese authorities in Hoang Sa waters is a serious violation of Vietnam's sovereignty and the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese fishermen. "Vietnam resolutely protests and demands that China fully respect Vietnam's rights over Hoang Sa archipelago; immediately release all illegally arrested Vietnamese fishing boats and fishermen. Adequately compensate for damages and stop and prevent the recurrence of harassment and illegal arrest of fishing boats and fishermen in Vietnam's Hoang Sa archipelago," Mr. Viet stated.
