At the regular press conference for the fourth quarter of 2024 and the press meeting to celebrate the New Year 2025, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the afternoon of January 7th, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hien – Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), stated that since 2018, E5 bioethanol has been widely sold throughout the country, but the consumption trend has been declining due to various reasons.

Specifically, the price difference between E5 gasoline and conventional gasoline is not significant, which has not yet encouraged or attracted consumers to use this type of gasoline. Furthermore, the communication efforts have not been effective in building consumer trust. In addition, with the current economic development, consumers have more modern means of transportation, leading them to use higher-quality gasoline.

Regarding this issue, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan further emphasized that, in order to develop E5 bioethanol, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has implemented many measures in recent times. In particular, even in the management of gasoline prices and supply and demand, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has always requested the creation of room to encourage consumers to use it.

Given the declining consumption of E5 gasoline, the Minister of Industry and Trade has issued documents and directives to promote its use. Notably, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned the Science and Technology Department as the lead unit to implement Decision 53/2012/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, conducting a comprehensive review and assessment of the implementation of the Decision on the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, and then submitting a report to the Prime Minister for consideration.

In accordance with Decision No. 53/2012/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the issuance of a roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a Directive to implement Resolution No. 53/2012/QD-TTg. Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned tasks to its affiliated units and agencies, provincial departments of industry and trade, and petroleum businesses to organize the implementation of this content.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued numerous documents and directives urging businesses, distributors, and petroleum wholesalers to implement, conduct business, and distribute E5 gasoline.

Previously, analysts pointed out that E5 bioethanol fuel contains 5% by volume of bioethanol and 95% by volume of traditional gasoline. Currently, bioethanol in Vietnam is mainly produced from dried cassava chips. Bioethanol has been used in many countries around the world for many years and is considered a solution for environmental protection and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

In addition to environmental benefits, the use of E5 bioethanol fuel offers numerous advantages for vehicle engines and contributes to energy security, reducing dependence on imported fuel, curbing rising oil prices, and stabilizing energy supply. Furthermore, the use of E5 bioethanol fuel fosters the development of raw material areas for ethanol production, creating green vegetation that reduces the impact of storms, floods, erosion, and combats climate change.
