Vietnam's coffee exports earned over $3.6 billion.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's coffee exports in November reached 119,297 tons with a value of over 356 million USD, a sharp increase of 172% in volume and 126.4% in value compared to the previous month. For the first 11 months of the year, Vietnam earned over 3.6 billion USD from exporting more than 1.4 million tons of coffee, a decrease of 10.4% in volume but a slight increase of 0.4% in value compared to the same period last year.

The average export price reached US$2,574 per ton, an increase of 12% compared to the same period in 2022.
Among export markets, the top three remain Germany, Italy, and Japan, with market shares of 10%, 8%, and 7.7%, respectively.
Specifically, Vietnam exported 168,384 tons of coffee to Germany, earning over $384 million, a decrease of 13% in volume and 7% in value. Italy spent over $281 million importing 125,226 tons of coffee from Vietnam, a decrease of 3% in volume but an increase of 2% in value. For Japan, Vietnam exported 94,287 tons of coffee since the beginning of the year, earning over $271 million, a decrease of 5% in volume but an increase of 7% compared to the same period last year.
Imports and exports in 2023 reached a milestone of 683 billion USD.
According to the latest statistics from the General Statistics Office, the total import and export turnover in 2023 officially reached 683 billion USD.
Specifically, in December, total merchandise import and export turnover was estimated at US$63.54 billion, an increase of 4.7% compared to the previous month and a 12.7% increase compared to the same period last year. For the whole year 2023, total merchandise import and export turnover is estimated at US$683 billion, a decrease of 6.6% compared to the previous year, with exports decreasing by 4.4% and imports decreasing by 8.9%. The merchandise trade balance for 2023 is estimated to have a surplus of US$28 billion.

Accordingly, merchandise exports in December 2023 were estimated at US$32.91 billion, an increase of 5.7% compared to the previous month. For the whole year 2023, merchandise exports were estimated at US$355.5 billion, a decrease of 4.4% compared to the previous year. There were 35 product categories with export turnover exceeding US$1 billion, accounting for 93.6% of total export turnover (including 7 product categories with export turnover exceeding US$10 billion, accounting for 66%).
Conversely, merchandise imports in December 2023 were estimated at US$30.63 billion, a 3.6% increase compared to the previous month. In the fourth quarter of 2023, imports were estimated at US$90.2 billion, an 8% increase compared to the same period last year and a 6.3% increase compared to the third quarter of 2023.
For the whole year of 2023, the value of imported goods is estimated at 327.5 billion USD, a decrease of 8.9% compared to the previous year. In 2023, there were 44 imported items with a value exceeding 1 billion USD, accounting for 92.4% of the total import value (including 4 imported items exceeding 10 billion USD, accounting for 46.8%).
In the first 11 months of the year, Vietnam's crude oil exports earned $1.7 billion.
According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's crude oil exports in November reached 311,483 tons with a value of over 231 million USD, a sharp increase of 29.1% in volume and 22.4% in value compared to October.
In the first 11 months of the year, Vietnam earned $1.7 billion from crude oil exports, totaling over 2.5 million tons, a 4.9% increase in volume but a 14% decrease in value compared to the same period last year.

The average export price reached US$685 per ton, a 19% decrease compared to the same period in 2022. Among crude oil export markets, Thailand was the largest, and also recorded a surge in production during the first 11 months of the year.
Specifically, Vietnam exported 989,950 tons of crude oil to Thailand in the first 11 months of the year, earning over $666 million, a 23% increase in volume but a 2.5% decrease in value compared to the same period in 2022. The export price reached $673 per ton, a 21% decrease compared to the same period in 2022.
Besides Thailand, Vietnam also exports crude oil to countries such as Australia, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia.
In the first 11 months of 2023, durian exports reached over $2.1 billion, an increase of 480.3%.
According to data from the General Department of Customs, in November 2023, Vietnam's durian exports reached US$90.908 million, a decrease of 73.9% compared to October 2023, but an increase of 16.3% compared to November 2022. Overall, in the first 11 months of 2023, durian exports reached over US$2.1 billion, an increase of 480.3% compared to the same period last year.

Regarding the market, exports of fresh durian to China in November 2023 reached US$82.14 million, a decrease of 74.8% compared to October 2023, but an increase of 37.2% compared to November 2022. Overall, in the first 11 months of 2023, durian exports to this market reached over VND 1.971 billion, an increase of 1,515.1% compared to the same period last year.
Along with the Chinese market, in the first 11 months of 2023, exports of fresh durian to the Czech Republic increased by 28,195.4%; exports to Papua New Guinea increased by 837.6%; exports to the United States increased by 282.8%; exports to Canada increased by 222%; and exports to France increased by 32%.
However, some markets also recorded a decline in export growth compared to the same period last year, including Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), and Japan.
Rice exports are about to reach 8 million tons.
According to the latest preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in the first half of December (December 1-15), the whole country exported 292,192 tons of rice, with a value of 200 million USD.
From the beginning of the year to December 15th, the whole country exported more than 7.93 million tons of rice, worth nearly 4.54 billion USD, an increase of 15.4% in volume and nearly 36% in value compared to the same period in 2022.

Regarding export markets (updated by the General Department of Customs as of the end of November), ASEAN and China are the two largest markets. Exports to ASEAN reached 4.58 million tons, an increase of 25.6% compared to the same period last year; exports to China reached 896,000 tons, an increase of 10.9%.
In total, rice exports to these two markets reached 5.48 million tons, accounting for 72% of the country's total rice exports during the same period.
Within ASEAN, the Philippines and Indonesia are Vietnam's two largest rice export markets.
