On the afternoon of December 10th, the Vietnamese sports delegation won its first gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games thanks to the outstanding performance of canoeists Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong in the women's 500m double canoeing event. The pair competed with speed and skill, overcoming strong regional competitors to open the gold medal tally for the Vietnamese delegation.

With this achievement, each athlete will receive bonuses according to current regulations, along with social rewards. According to Decree 152/2018/ND-CP, the bonus for an athlete winning a SEA Games gold medal is 45 million VND, in addition to a 10 million VND bonus from the Vietnam Sports Department.

The SEA Games gold medal is well-deserved for the efforts of the two Huongs.

In total, Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong will each receive at least 55 million VND, not including additional bonuses from sponsors, federations, or benefactors - which are usually announced after the team finishes the day's competition.

High-achieving athletes may receive additional rewards from other sources.

In fact, athletes who achieve high results at the SEA Games often have the opportunity to receive many valuable rewards from sports federations and sponsors. In previous Games, many federations have offered large bonuses to motivate athletes, from the 100 million VND bonus from the Mixed Martial Arts Federation to the billions of VND in prize money from the Vietnam Athletics Federation when the team meets its targets.

The 32nd SEA Games saw a prime example in athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh, who received hundreds of millions of VND in prize money from social contributions, the Department of Sports and Physical Education, and sponsors, not to mention valuable rewards such as cars or apartments. Prior to that, big names like Nguyen Thi Anh Vien also received very high rewards on numerous occasions for their outstanding achievements.

Nguyen Thi Oanh is one of the most outstanding athletes at the 32nd SEA Games.

At the 32nd SEA Games, the first sport to bring home a gold medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation was chess, and this year, that honor went to canoeing with the "twin" Huong. This promising start provides great morale boost for the entire Vietnamese canoeing team.
