On April 10, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information sent a dispatch to Netflix Company requesting compliance with Vietnamese laws when providing online video game services.

The document stated that, through reviewing and checking online services, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information discovered that Netflix Company was advertising unlicensed video games on the Netflix application provided to Vietnamese users and providing many video games on the App Store Vietnam and Google Play Store Vietnam without being licensed to operate in Vietnam. These acts violated Article 31 of Decree 72/2013/ND-CP of the Government regulating the management, provision and use of Internet services and online information.

Therefore, the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information requires Netflix to stop advertising and releasing video games on the Netflix application and application stores (App Store Vietnam and Google Play Store Vietnam) before April 25, 2024; strictly comply with the provisions of law when providing services in Vietnam.

In case Netflix Company does not comply with the above requirements, the Ministry of Information and Communications will coordinate with relevant state management agencies to handle the matter in accordance with Vietnamese law.

Netflix's unauthorized release of games into the Vietnamese market has created unfair competition in the Vietnamese game market. Because these games are released without paying taxes, without having to undergo censorship, licensing, or storing user data; meanwhile, publishers in Vietnam when releasing games must pay 10% VAT and corporate income tax if any...
