According to the latest announcement from state-owned banks (Vietcombank, VietinBank, Agribank and BIDV), the regulation to stop online transactions for customers who have not synchronized identification information and biometric data according to the National Population Database standard will officially take effect from January 1, 2026.
Accordingly, from the beginning of 2026, banks will block all transaction features on Mobile Banking and Internet Banking for users who have not completed data standardization. This is a measure to meet the State Bank's requirements to eliminate non-standardized accounts and minimize the risk of high-tech fraud, which tends to increase sharply in the period before Tet.
Accounts in the following 3 cases will have their online transactions temporarily suspended:
Still using 9-digit identity cards (ID cards) and not yet switching to chip-embedded citizen identification cards (CCCDs) in data stored at banks;
Expired but not updated identification documents;
No biometrics (face) collected or existing biometric data does not match the citizen identification chip.
When online transactions are locked, the account holder will have to go to the bank counter to re-verify information and activate.
Banks unanimously recommend that customers complete data standardization this December to avoid interruptions in money transfers and payments during Tet.
The update process can be done directly on the banking application via NFC technology. Customers just need to log in, select the information update section and put the chip-embedded citizen ID card on the back of the phone for the system to read and synchronize data.
If the device does not support NFC or there is a technical error, customers should go to the transaction office before December 31 to receive direct support from bank staff.
