Regarding environmental protection at the North Quang Nam Solid Waste Treatment Plant, the plant's director, Nguyen Van Trung, stated that after receiving an environmental permit from the former Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, the plant has been receiving household waste from Dai Loc and Duy Xuyen districts and the former Dien Ban town (now approximately 15 wards and communes in Da Nang city) since its trial operation began in August 2022.
However, the plant has not yet operated its household waste incinerator and is persistently shifting towards waste recycling because the plant is located near a residential area (700m away).
The factory's chimney emits cooling steam from the process of heating nylon to create plastic pellets, one of the factory's recycled products.
“The white vapor rising from the factory's chimney is steam. We have also channeled this steam through silos to condense it, reducing the amount of steam released into the environment. At the same time, we conduct regular and independent monitoring of environmental indicators to ensure environmental quality. The factory strictly adheres to all regulations and measures regarding environmental protection,” Mr. Nguyen Van Trung affirmed.
On average, the factory receives 220 tons of waste daily. A portion of this waste is passed through an automated waste sorting system designed, manufactured, and installed by the company to separate the nylon and produce plastic pellets, which are then supplied to factories that manufacture plastic products.
Most of the waste is composted for a period of time to decompose organic matter, then pressed to remove water and shredded for use as raw material in the production of RDF fuel, which is supplied to cement and ceramic tile factories as a replacement for imported coal, aiming to fulfill Vietnam's "Net Zero" commitment.
Currently, the North Quang Nam municipal solid waste treatment plant is recycling waste at a capacity of 50 tons of RDF fuel per day and 60-80 tons of plastic pellets per month to supply the market.

The market outlook for RDF fuel from municipal solid waste is increasing as it aims to replace imported coal. Many plants nationwide are piloting emission quota allocation for the 2025-2026 period to contribute to achieving net zero emissions, creating a significant opportunity for the North Quang Nam Municipal Solid Waste Treatment Plant to significantly increase its waste recycling capacity for RDF fuel, ultimately moving away from burning conventional municipal solid waste at the plant.
Besides negotiating with major factories to ensure stable consumption of RDF fuel, Huy Hoang Eco Environmental Joint Stock Company is focusing on coordinating with relevant departments, agencies, and localities to carry out procedures for adjusting planning and investment... to increase production capacity and expand the scale of the North Quang Nam Household Solid Waste Treatment Plant, aiming to recycle all household waste received at the plant, contributing to fulfilling Vietnam's commitment to achieving net zero emissions.
