The conference was held to promptly commend and honor collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in grassroots information activities; to encourage, motivate and create a forum for grassroots information workers to exchange, connect, and share good experiences and creative ways of doing things in grassroots information activities.
At the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Minister of Information and Communications stated: grassroots information is a unique communication activity of Vietnam, a communication system that directly approaches people, using information types from simple ones such as word of mouth, visual monographs, to modern, multimedia, multi-platform information types to disseminate and provide information close to the needs of people in each village, hamlet, and residential group, effectively serving the direction and administration of grassroots Party committees and authorities.
Through the review process, the Ministry of Information and Communications selected: 10 provincial-level Department of Information and Communications; 48 district-level Centers for Culture, Information and Sports ; 62 individuals and grassroots propagandists, and people in charge of commune-level radio stations to honor; and were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Minister of Information and Communications for their outstanding achievements in grassroots information activities in 2023.
In the context of digital technology development and the rise of social networks, grassroots information workers need to continue to affirm their role as the subject providing official information to people in all regions, and as a bridge between the government and the people.
In recent years, with the attention and direction of the Party, State, Party committees and authorities, grassroots information has made new developments, contributing to local socio-economic development, creating consensus in society and people's trust.
Grassroots information activities are currently organized using many different types of information. The country currently has 10,033 commune-level radio stations (reaching 95%); 666 district-level radio and television stations (reaching 94.5%); 701 district-level public electronic information websites and 8,471 commune-level electronic information websites; 870 district-level public electronic bulletins and 1,956 commune-level public electronic bulletin boards; and more than 200,000 grassroots propagandists.
