Bao Phuong Vinh successfully "avenged" his previous loss against the strong Egyptian player. Meanwhile, Phung Kien Tuong also won but was unable to claim the championship title at the WCBS Championship 2024 (held in Kielce, Poland).

Bao Phuong Vinh successfully collected the debt.

After a heartbreaking defeat in a penalty shootout against Asia B in the semi-finals of the WCBS Championship 2024 billiards tournament on the evening of July 28th, Bao Phuong Vinh's Asia A team had to compete for third place against Africa & Rest of the World. In the men's 3-cushion carom event, the player from Binh Duong province faced Sameh Sidhom (Egypt) again late on July 28th. Previously, these two players had faced each other in the group stage, where Phuong Vinh lost 33-40 after 17 innings.

In the third-place match, Sidhom continued to demonstrate his formidable prowess. In the opening innings, the Egyptian player achieved a 10-point series to take the lead. Sidhom then maintained tight control of the game. The player nicknamed "the Egyptian prince" continued with another 10-point series to take the match to halftime and lead Phuong Vinh by 12 points (28-16). At one point, Sidhom led the Vietnamese player 35-22. However, in the final stages, the representative of the Africa & Rest of the World team failed to maintain accuracy in many situations. Conversely, Bao Phuong Vinh showed his composure against Sidhom's rapid scoring pace. Although the player from Binh Duong couldn't overtake him, he fought back fiercely. The 2023 World Championship winner didn't have any large series (his highest series was 5 points), but he scored consistently. Towards the end, the player born in 1995 capitalized on Sidhom's missed opportunities to pull ahead and win the match 40-37, after 23 innings.

Bao Phuong Vinh delivered a stellar performance in the final match, contributing to Asia A's third-place finish overall.

WCBS

Bao Phuong Vinh's Asia A team finished in 3rd place overall at the WCBS Championship 2024 billiards tournament. The 29-year-old player had a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. In the group stage, Phuong Vinh defeated Ryuji Umeda (Asia B team), Javier Vera (Americas team), Ruben Legazpi (Europe B team) and lost to Torbjorn Blomdahl (Europe A team) and Sameh Sidhom (Africa & Rest of the World team). Phuong Vinh lost to Ryuji Umeda in the semi-finals before defeating Sidhom in the 3rd place match.

Phung Kien Tuong missed out on the championship.

Meanwhile, Phung Kien Tuong is the only Vietnamese player to reach the final of the WCBS Championship 2024 billiards tournament. In the women's 3-cushion carom event, Kien Tuong (Asia B team) faced Karina Jetten (Europe B team). The Vietnamese female player won 25-20 against Karina Jetten.

Phung Kien Tuong won the 3-cushion carom final, but the Asia B team was unable to claim the title.

WCBS

However, Phung Kien Tuong's victory in the women's 3-cushion carom billiards event was not enough to secure the title for Asia B. In the 8 matches, Europe B won 5 times against Asia B. Therefore, Europe B officially became champions of the WBCS Championship 2024 billiards tournament held in Kielce, Poland.
The WCBS Championship 2024 billiards tournament (held in Kielce, Poland from July 25-28) features 48 players competing in four categories: 3-cushion carom (men and women), heyball (men and women), 10-ball pool (men and women), and snooker (men and women). The 48 players are divided into six teams (8 players per team, each team consisting of 4 men and 4 women): Europe A, Europe B, Asia A, Asia B, Americas, and Africa & Rest of the World. Teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine rankings. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals. The champion will receive a prize of $44,000, and the runner-up $34,000. The teams ranked 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th received $20,000, $16,000, $14,000, and $12,000 respectively.
