The bridge, over 2.3km long, across the sea in Hue City has basically completed its spans, and the contractor is now focusing on constructing the remaining two main spans to complete the joining process.

According to observations by reporters from Giao Thong Newspaper in mid-January 2025, the bridge over Thuan An estuary, part of the coastal road project through Hue City – phase 1, is being accelerated by contractors taking advantage of dry weather.

At the construction site, especially in the area of the two main spans, which are tens of meters above sea level, the team of engineers and workers are busy working to complete this important project in the first quarter of 2025 as planned.

The bridge project across Thuan An estuary, part of phase 1 of the coastal road project through Hue City, commenced on March 26, 2022, and has now reached over 72% completion.

Notably, the Thuận An estuary bridge is a large-scale project, with a length of 2.360 km and a width of 20 m. The main span width is widened to 23.5 m due to the placement of 2.5 m wide tower piers and safety strips on both sides. The bridge is a permanent structure constructed using reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete, with a design live load of HL93.

The superstructure for the main span crossing the Thuan An estuary consists of 3 spans (120+218+120)m of extradosed girders, constructed using the balanced cantilever method followed by cable-stayed suspension; the approach spans consist of 2 continuous girder spans (55+90+55)m of prestressed reinforced concrete constructed using the balanced cantilever method and super-T girder spans.

The substructure consists of reinforced concrete piers and abutments, supported by bored pile foundations with a diameter of D1.5m (D2.0m bored piles for the main piers and Extrados girder piers)...

The minimum navigable clearance at the main bridge span is 80m wide and 39.2m high (perpendicular direction), and 105m wide and 39.2m high (diagonal direction) to ensure navigation and accommodate vessels with a maximum deadweight tonnage of 5000 DWT entering and leaving Thuan An port as planned.

The bridge leading to the fishing boat mooring area in Hai Duong commune has a clearance width of 40m and a height of 10m.

The coastal road project through Hue City and the bridge over Thuan An estuary – Phase 1 is 7.785km long, from Tam Giang Bridge in Hai Duong commune to the bridge over Thuan An estuary, ending at the intersection of National Highway 49A and National Highway 49B in Thuan An ward, Hue City. The total investment for Phase 1 of the project is 2,400 billion VND.

The project is managed by the Hue City Transportation Construction Investment Project Management Board. The consortium of Tan Nam Construction Joint Stock Company, Dat Phuong Group Joint Stock Company, and 479 Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company is the contractor, with a planned completion time of 3 years.

According to the Hue City People's Committee, the coastal road and bridge project across Thuan An estuary is of particular importance to the socio-economic development of the locality and ensures national defense and security. This will be a strategic route and a driving force for the development of the marine and lagoon economy in the coming time, contributing to changing the urban landscape of Hue City.

The completion of the Thuan An estuary bridge will break the isolation of this estuary, creating a landmark architectural structure that enhances the landscape of the area and promotes socio-economic development along the coast and lagoon. At the same time, the coastal road through Hue City and the Thuan An estuary bridge will alleviate congestion on the North-South traffic arteries, contributing to opening up more investment opportunities and developing coastal economic zones.

According to the investor and contractors, the Thuận An estuary bridge project, located in the coastal area, faced challenges due to unfavorable weather conditions throughout 2024, making construction impossible at many times. Currently, the contractors are taking advantage of favorable weather to accelerate progress and complete the bridge by April 30th.

During a recent inspection of the coastal road and bridge project across Thuan An estuary, Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh requested the investor and construction contractors to commit to focusing on implementation to ensure progress according to the timelines, and not to use the Lunar New Year holiday as an excuse to affect the project's progress.

At the same time, the leaders of Thuan An ward and related units are focusing intensely on the land clearance work for the remaining 600m. The land clearance for the remaining 600m must be completed no later than February 20th, striving to complete the bridge construction across Thuan An estuary by April 30th to ensure the project is open for technical traffic by September 2nd.
