TPO - More than 15% of the work has been completed in phase 1 of the access road project to Ha Tien General Port. Upon completion, the project is expected to expand trade between Phu Quoc, Cambodia, and Thailand. This is an access road to the port, not a "sea crossing connecting Tien Hai with Phu Quoc" as some information on social media suggests.

The project for the access road to Ha Tien General Port was approved by the People's Committee of Ha Tien City (before the merger) and commenced construction in June of this year. The total investment for the project is nearly 1,200 billion VND, using funds from the central and local budgets. Since the port is located offshore, the access road was constructed using land reclamation. The road connecting Ha Tien to the port, nearly 4.9km long, is being built on reclaimed land. Phase 1 involves the construction of a 1.8km reclaimed road section with 4 lanes, a 15m wide road surface, and 5m wide sidewalks on both sides; the bridge on the seaward side is approximately 240m long. Phase 2 includes a 2.85km reclaimed road section. The main route is designed according to the standards of a Class III road in a flat area, incorporating a system of breakwaters to protect the structure. Speaking with a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper , Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuyen, Deputy Director of the Ha Tien Project Management Board, said that the access road project to the Ha Tien General Port is currently receiving concentrated resources from the construction units to ensure progress and quality. Currently, the work volume has reached over 15%.
According to Mr. Tuyen, approximately 830 meters of the access road have been completed. Construction teams are working continuously, without taking weekends off, to speed up progress.
The project has a total investment of over 1,100 billion VND, of which nearly 600 billion VND is allocated to phase 1. Phase 1 is expected to be completed in early 2027, but the investor is striving to put it into operation earlier, around the end of 2026, provided there are no weather or material supply issues. "Currently, the basic material supply meets the requirements. This season has less wind and favorable weather, so we are taking advantage of the opportunity to maximize construction," Mr. Tuyen said. The leader of the Ha Tien Project Management Board further stated that the access road to the Ha Tien General Port is located 3.7km from the nearest historical water area, approximately 5.7km from milestone 314, and is entirely within Vietnam's sovereignty (within the Ha Tien to Tien Hai power line route). After completion, the road will still be about 5km from Tien Hai island commune. The overall map shows the Ha Tien general port located offshore, with a reclaimed land road and a bridge over the sea connecting it to the shore.
The leaders of An Giang province have repeatedly inspected the site and requested the investor and contractor to accelerate progress while ensuring absolute labor safety and construction quality. Upon completion, the access road and Ha Tien General Port will be of particular importance in the economic development of the region. “The project will help regulate the flow of goods to and from Phu Quoc more easily, expanding trade with Cambodia and Thailand,” Mr. Tuyen emphasized.
