Need to dredge the reservoir of Thach Nham irrigation project soon

(Baoquangngai.vn) - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien said that after 40 years of operation, the reservoir of the Thach Nham irrigation project has been silted up and needs to be dredged to protect and effectively exploit this large irrigation project.

On the afternoon of April 10, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien chaired a meeting with relevant departments, branches, Quang Ngai Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. and Son Ha district to give opinions on dredging sand and alluvial soil in the reservoir of Thach Nham irrigation headworks.

Representative of Quang Ngai Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. reported on the implementation of procedures for dredging the reservoir of Thach Nham irrigation headworks.

According to the report of Quang Ngai Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd., in 2024, the Provincial People's Committee met and agreed on the policy of implementing the project of dredging sand and alluvial soil in the reservoir of Thach Nham irrigation headworks. The project has a total dredging area of ​​about 11.15 hectares; the dredged riverbed length is 665m; depth is 2.3m; total dredged volume is more than 303 thousand cubic meters. The estimated cost is about 31 billion VND; the implementation period is divided into 3 years, including 2025, 2026 and 2027. Accordingly, in 2025, the area near Thach Nham headworks will be dredged, with an estimated cost of 10 billion VND from the provincial budget. Dredged products will be gathered, auctioned, and paid to the budget.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien delivered a concluding speech at the meeting.

After listening to comments from departments, branches and Son Ha district, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien said that after 40 years of operation, the reservoir of the Thach Nham irrigation project has been silted up and needs to be dredged. The purpose is to reduce the amount of sand and soil deposited in the reservoir, increase the capacity compared to the current status, reduce the silting of agricultural land in Son Nham commune (Son Ha); reduce the silting of sand and sand in Thach Nham canals, increase the efficiency of water intake into the culverts at the culvert. At the same time, combine the recovery of sand and soil deposited to make construction materials, meeting the needs in the area.

The reservoir area of ​​the Thach Nham irrigation project in Son Nham commune (Son Ha) will be prioritized for dredging in 2025.

“The Department of Finance urgently advised the Provincial People's Committee to allocate funding according to the proposal of Quang Ngai Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd., which is 10 billion VND to implement the first year's dredging plan in April 2025. After receiving funding, the company must carry out the following procedures to ensure that by the end of June 2025, the dredging work will officially begin,” emphasized Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Phuoc Hien.
