On February 22, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and leaders of departments and branches surveyed Cam Ranh international port to serve the reception of international cruise ships.
According to Tan Cang - Petro Cam Ranh Company Limited (under Saigon New Port Corporation), Cam Ranh international port has been operating since March 2016, with a total length of 2,147m including 2 wharves that can receive cargo ships up to 110,000 DWT and passenger ships up to 226,000 GT.
The port is 5 nautical miles from the international shipping route; the 303ha anchorage area in front of the port is located in the wind-sheltered Binh Ba lagoon, ensuring year-round maritime activities. Since 2016, the port has welcomed 19 international cruise ships.
The company hopes that the province will consider and create conditions for Cam Ranh International Port to continue to welcome more international cruise ships in accordance with the functions and planning of the Government 's seaport.
At the meeting, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - said that Nha Trang port is currently under repair, receiving ships is difficult, so using Cam Ranh international port to receive cruise ships to Khanh Hoa is extremely necessary.
Mr. Thieu requested the company to complete the plan to welcome ships in and out of the port, including a backup plan in case of adverse weather. At the same time, he assigned the Department of Tourism to take the lead in removing difficulties in welcoming cruise ships at Cam Ranh International Port; organize a conference to promote cruise tourism; coordinate with relevant units to work with shipping lines...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh - Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism - said: "During the survey, the delegation highly appreciated the infrastructure at the port. The port must develop a plan to welcome international cruise ships, especially coordinating with Naval Region 4 to facilitate the reception of guests. The Department and the Tourism Association will actively promote and advertise the reception point for cruise ships to businesses."
According to Ms. Thanh, in 2024, the province will welcome 44 cruise ships with a large number of visitors. Besides the option of anchoring at Cam Ranh International Port, international cruise ships can still anchor outside Nha Trang Bay and tourists will be transferred to Nha Trang Port by tender and canoe.
Nha Trang Port Will Not Receive Cruise Ships for 6 Months
Previously, in December 2023, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued a document temporarily suspending Nha Trang port operations for maintenance and repair due to degradation.
During the construction period (no more than 6 months), the port will not receive domestic passenger ships but will still receive international tourist ships during this time.
