In mid-August, more than 13,000 engineers and workers, divided into 3 shifts and 4 teams, deployed construction at hundreds of sites to accelerate progress, aiming to essentially complete the Long Thanh airport project.

The project is expected to be operational by the end of 2025 and begin commercial operation in the first half of 2026.

The passenger terminal – the most important component – has completed the underground concrete structure and the main structure from the first to the fourth floor. The central area is 96% complete in terms of rough construction, with the roof finished and waterproofed; the three terminal wings are over 93% complete in terms of rough construction, with the entire steel frame and roof completed.

At the passenger terminal, hundreds of workers are diligently installing fire protection systems, air conditioning, lighting, elevators, escalators, and more.

Alongside the installation of the technical systems, the units are completing the ceilings, floors, walls, and installing glass doors. As of early August, the installation of the fire extinguishing pipeline system has reached approximately 75%.

Workers are also installing an automated baggage handling system (BHS).

Machinery and workers are constructing the jet bridge section, which includes 32 jet bridges and 40 nearby parking positions for Code C, E, and F aircraft.

In front of the station, the parking area has completed the piling work, while simultaneously constructing the structure and underground electrical, water supply and drainage, and fire protection systems. Currently, 160 out of a total of 1,215 foundations for the basement and ground floors have been completed.

All contract packages are being implemented simultaneously. In package 4.6, the runway, taxiway, and apron are basically complete; the traffic signal system has been successfully tested since the end of April. The apron and taxiway area of the terminal has completed more than half of the concrete surface layer, and the drainage system and technical tunnels have completed more than 80% of the work.

As dusk fell, a bustling work atmosphere still enveloped the entire Long Thanh International Airport construction site.

The roar of machinery echoed as thousands of engineers and skilled workers, divided into multiple teams, diligently carried out the various project components.

At runway 2, the joint venture contractor is working non-stop with heavy equipment, high-capacity concrete pavers, and a large workforce. Under the high-pressure lights, each layer of concrete is leveled and compacted, ensuring technical standards are met.

Night shifts at the construction site are arduous, but for many workers, the pride of contributing to a national-level project makes all fatigue disappear. For months now, Nguyen Van Hue and his teammates have been diligently working at the construction site, considering night shifts as a part of their daily routine.

Runway No. 2, 4,000 meters long and 45 meters wide, commenced construction at the end of May and is currently undergoing simultaneous work on the foundation, drainage system, and M150 cement concrete layer. To ensure the quality of the project, all input materials are thoroughly inspected before use.

The goal is to essentially complete the foundation and 150mm concrete pavement before December 19, 2025; then complete the 350mm concrete pavement before March 2026, ensuring synchronization with the passenger terminal's progress so that the entire project can be put into operation in June 2026 as required.

Meanwhile, runway number 1 was completed three months ahead of schedule, ready for calibration flights.
According to ACV, the Long Thanh airport construction site currently mobilizes nearly 13,000 experts, engineers, and workers, along with approximately 3,000 pieces of equipment and machinery, to implement various project components. Specifically for package 5.10 – the construction of the passenger terminal – the consortium of contractors has deployed 4,428 personnel and over 1,000 pieces of equipment, ensuring timely progress.

Long Thanh International Airport is envisioned to become the largest airport in Vietnam, with a designed capacity of 100 million passengers per year.
