This morning, April 9th, the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Vo Van Hung, chaired a working session with the Central Vietnam Power Corporation regarding the investment and construction of power supply projects for key infrastructure and industrial zones in the province. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Le Duc Tien, also attended the meeting.

According to a report from the Department of Industry and Trade, currently, the province has 33 power plants and 151 rooftop solar power systems in operation with a total capacity of 1,119.5 MW. In the 2024-2025 period, it is expected that 4 wind power plants with a total capacity of 156 MW and 7 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 93 MW will come into operation and generate electricity commercially.
The electricity supply is relatively large compared to the local electricity demand; however, some wind power plants generate electricity for the 220 kV transmission grid, while the remaining power plants generate electricity directly for the distribution grid. Therefore, electricity supply in the area depends on 220 kV substations, the 110 kV power system, and the medium-voltage grid that directly supplies electricity to the areas.

Regarding the power system, by the end of 2023, Quang Tri Power Company managed and operated 390.15 km of 110 kV power lines, 8 110 kV substations with a total capacity of 360 MVA; 2,160.3 km of medium-voltage power lines, 2,357 substations (2,392 transformers) with a total capacity of 601 MVA; 3,948 km of low-voltage power lines; and 216,140 electricity customers.
Currently, investment capital for the construction of the power system in the area mainly depends on the electricity sector; allocating capital from other projects faces many difficulties. On the other hand, large-capacity registered loads are concentrated in the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone and in the northern area of Vinh Linh district.

In order to ensure a stable power supply for socio-economic development, national defense and security, and the lives of the people in the province in the coming period, the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee requests the Central Power Corporation to prioritize the investment in two 110 kV substations, including: the 110 kV power line and substation in the Southeast Economic Zone with a capacity of 1x40 MVA (located in Hai An commune, Hai Lang district) and the 110 kV power line and substation in Bac Ho Xa with a capacity of 1x40 MVA (located in Vinh Long commune, Vinh Linh district).
Simultaneously, invest in providing electricity to the boundaries of industrial parks and clusters in the province; implement the 2024 electricity supply plan flexibly, ensuring efficiency and suitability to the local power source and grid situation; ensure proactive measures to address power shortages and reduce electricity production during the peak summer season of 2024 as regulated.
During the meeting, Mr. Ngo Tan Cu, General Director of the Central Power Corporation, thanked the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and agencies for their continuous support and assistance in sharing difficulties with the power sector over the past time, especially for creating favorable conditions for the Central Power Corporation and Quang Tri Power Company in investing in and constructing projects, and operating the power grid stably and safely.
Leaders of the Central Vietnam Power Corporation, along with specialized departments and affiliated units, provided an overview of the company's operations over the past period; they also shared and addressed local requests to resolve obstacles related to the implementation of several power supply projects for key infrastructure and industrial zones in the area.
Accordingly, the leaders of the Central Vietnam Power Corporation agreed with the proposal of the Provincial People's Committee to invest in two 110 kV substations in Hai Lang and Vinh Linh districts, on the condition that the province commits to having sufficient load capacity so that the power sector has a basis to propose supplementing the planning and investing in the power grid to ensure synchronization and meet the electricity needs of the project.
On the other hand, the Central Power Corporation will also consider and prioritize investment in providing electricity to the boundaries of industrial parks and clusters in the province if certain relevant conditions are met.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Van Hung highly appreciated the serious, frank, and positive working spirit of the Central Power Corporation. Emphasizing the province's potential and advantages, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee stated that Quang Tri has ample room for future development. Therefore, investing in power supply projects for industrial parks and clusters in the province is entirely consistent with the Quang Tri Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister, and also aligns with the goals that the Central Power Corporation is aiming for.
The Provincial People's Committee will direct relevant departments, agencies, and localities to coordinate closely with the Central Power Corporation and Quang Tri Power Company to ensure the project is implemented on schedule and put into operation smoothly.
