Entrepreneurs - An important force in building a strong country

Implementing the renovation policy since 1986 up to now, with the correct policies and guidelines of the Party and the State, the Vietnamese business community has developed strongly in both quantity and quality, inheriting the tradition of patriotism, promoting the will of self-reliance, self-strengthening, and the spirit of dedication to the nation; increasingly affirming its role and making important contributions to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland; a number of businesses have developed to reach regional and world levels, contributing to enhancing the position and prestige of Vietnam in the international arena.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Planning and Investment , Vietnam currently has more than 930,000 operating enterprises, about 14,400 cooperatives and more than 5 million business households. This is one of the core forces that creates wealth and material; makes an important contribution to economic growth; creates jobs, increases income for workers, contributes to hunger eradication, poverty reduction and social stability. The force of enterprises and entrepreneurs currently contributes about 60% of GDP, 85% of the total number of workers, 98% of total import-export turnover. Such encouraging results are thanks to the efforts of the entire political system and the business community. With the spirit of creation, the Government and the Prime Minister have always accompanied businesses, strongly implemented institutional and administrative reforms, improved the investment and business environment to facilitate business development.

Our country is at a very important time when the world is witnessing many major changes, the birth of new industries, changes in policies of major economies leading to shifts in investment flows, adjustments in the structure of trade and investment. This poses risks and challenges but at the same time brings new opportunities and fortunes to countries.

As affirmed by General Secretary and President To Lam, our country is entering a new era, an era of rising up of the Vietnamese people. Therefore, more than ever, the new context is posing new requirements for the country's development orientation. Vietnam is not only striving to achieve growth targets but must be green and sustainable growth; not only developing traditional business sectors, but also focusing on attracting investment and creating breakthroughs for pioneering industries; not only growth based on capital and resource exploitation as before, but also on science - technology and innovation; not only promoting and renewing traditional growth drivers but also promoting new growth drivers from the circular economy, digital economy and new economic models.

Looking back at history, right after the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, on October 13, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to the Vietnamese Industrial and Commercial Association to encourage development and emphasize the role of the Industrial and Commercial Association in the national economy, in which he wrote: "Currently, the Industrial and Commercial Association for National Salvation is operating to do many things that benefit the country and the people. I very much welcome and expect many good results. While other groups in the nation are working hard to gain complete independence for the country, the Industrial and Commercial Association must work to build a stable and prosperous economy and finance...". Inheriting and promoting his ideology, 20 years ago (in 2004), October 13 was chosen as Vietnam Entrepreneurs Day every year, with the main meaning of encouraging and honoring the role of entrepreneurs who have contributed many achievements to the Fatherland and the people.

Over the years, the business community across the country has constantly innovated in thinking, methods, and ways of working, strongly demonstrating their spirit, will, and desire to contribute. In the face of difficulties caused by epidemics and natural disasters (COVID-19, Typhoon Yagi, etc.), businesses have not retreated, striving to unite, seek innovative solutions, improve production processes, and connect with each other to overcome difficulties and challenges. With the spirit of mutual love, businesses and businessmen are also active factors in humanitarian and charitable work, and are active members of social security activities of various scales and scopes.

Recently, when meeting with Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State and Government always respectfully welcome Vietnamese entrepreneurs - talented, dedicated people with a deep and correct awareness of their key responsibilities and pioneering role in contributing to promoting socio-economic development and enhancing the country's potential, prestige and international position.

It is thought that, in the new era of the nation, entrepreneurs will contribute more to socio-economic development, promote their pioneering role in taking advantage of opportunities from international integration and the Fourth Industrial Revolution; renew traditional growth drivers, effectively exploit new growth drivers; participate in emerging trends and fields of the world. In particular, there should be suggestions for the Government and the Prime Minister to continue to perfect institutions, mechanisms and policies to better support businesses; promote administrative reform, further improve the investment and business environment; develop national enterprises, large-scale enterprises, reaching the world; train and foster an increasingly strong team of entrepreneurs with full qualities and prestige; arouse the spirit of entrepreneurship in the whole society, especially in new fields and in the young generation.

Along with that, how can entrepreneurs and businesses continue to participate more actively in fulfilling social responsibilities, ensuring social security, helping the disadvantaged, people in difficult circumstances, remote areas, border areas, islands...

It can be affirmed that many achievements in the socio-economic development of our country in recent times have always had the contribution of the business community and entrepreneurs both at home and abroad. With the Government's commitment to continuously and strongly reform the administration, ensure an open and fair investment environment for all businesses, implement support programs for businesses to recover from natural disasters according to instructions; proactively propose amendments, supplements, and promulgate support regulations and rules; encourage innovative start-ups, the business community and entrepreneurs are more excited and confident in effective policy support. The business force and the team of entrepreneurs themselves are always proactive in continuing to promote their role as a bridge between businesses and state agencies; create and foster relationships of solidarity, cooperation and mutual assistance between businesses; actively make proposals in building and organizing the implementation of socio-economic development policies, mechanisms and policies related to enterprises, entrepreneurs and startups.

We believe that, in the current context, Vietnamese entrepreneurs will develop more and more strongly and effectively to together build an independent and powerful country./.
