The People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province announced that it has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requesting appraisal of the project to preserve and reinforce the Hon Vong Phu relic. This relic is part of the An Hoach Mountain (Nhoi Mountain) artistic and scenic relic complex, An Hung ward, Thanh Hoa city.
The scenic spot of Hon Vong Phu.
Hon Vong Phu is composed of limestone, which has weathered and cracked over a long period of time. Recent surveys show that this area contains layers of residual soil, alluvial deposits, and many thick, fractured rock formations on the surface, indicating that the weathering process has been intense.
The monument has also been struck by lightning twice and affected by surrounding quarrying and blasting activities, causing tremors that have widened the cracks. Therefore, even minor impacts such as heavy rain, strong winds, earthquakes, or blasting could seriously affect the monument's safety, potentially leading to its collapse.
The reinforcement project aims to ensure the sustainability of Hon Vong Phu by implementing technical solutions to increase its stiffness, stability, and resistance to weather and environmental impacts. According to the provincial People's Committee's proposal, the project will be funded with 17 billion VND from the provincial budget and is expected to be completed before April 30, 2025.
Previously, in October 2023, the Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized a scientific workshop to assess the current situation and propose solutions for preserving the Hon Vong Phu scenic site. In January 2024, the Provincial People's Committee issued a document on the implementation of a lightning protection project for this site; the project was implemented by Thanh Hoa City in May 2024.
