On July 7th, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee of Kong Bo La commune ( Gia Lai province), stated that he had instructed the commune's Party Committee's Inspection Committee to investigate and clarify the felling of trees within the grounds of the former Dong commune headquarters before the reorganization of commune-level administrative units.
Kông Bơ La commune was established after the merger of three communes: Nghĩa An, Kông Bơ La, and Đông. Following the merger, the commune's Party Committee and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee headquarters are located at the former Đông commune headquarters.
On June 21st and 22nd, many trees in the former Dong commune's grounds were cut down. The trees that were cut down were mahogany, green trees, and banyan trees.
Upon arriving at the scene, reporters observed that the trees had been cut down, leaving only their stumps. Many of the felled trees had trunks so large that it would take a person to encircle them.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Chung, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Commune, currently an official at the Public Administrative Service Center of Kong Bo La Commune, explained that on June 17th, a delegation from the People's Committee of the former Kbang District surveyed the area and instructed him to organize cleaning, trimming trees, and re-tiling some areas at the headquarters to ensure overall aesthetics before the Party Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district visited for work.
The People's Committee of the commune verbally contracted and hired people to cut and transport the trees for sale, totaling over 16.5 tons of firewood.
After deducting the costs of cutting and transporting the materials, the remaining amount was 9 million VND, which was handed over to the agency's treasurer to be used for repairing the tile floors and repainting the offices at the headquarters.
The tree cutting aims to address the problem of overgrown trees causing mosquitoes, remove some broken branches due to storms that detract from the aesthetics, and also to utilize the firewood for sale to fund repairs to the office.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee of Kong Bo La commune, initial checks indicate that the tree cutting was not in accordance with regulations and shows signs of wrongdoing.
"The extent of the violations will depend on the conclusions of the Inspection Committee, after which the commune Party Committee will direct strict handling in accordance with regulations," said Mr. Nguyen Van Dung.
