Xuan Tien and Van Truong after scoring the equalizer goal to make it 2-2 against U.22 Indonesia.
Losing in the semi-finals is always hard to swallow because the final is just a step away, but missing that step makes it a thousand miles away. Many members of the Vietnam U22 team, like Phan Tuan Tai, cried uncontrollably for that reason.
But like a constantly rolling ball, the Vietnam U.22 team can't dwell on sadness for long; they must immediately cast aside negative emotions and rise again, because they still have another important official match ahead.
The task for the Vietnam U22 team right now is to defeat Myanmar U22 to win the bronze medal at the 32nd SEA Games. It might be less prestigious than reaching the final and winning the gold medal, but it's still better than going home empty-handed.
Looking at it from a broader perspective, the bronze medal in a tournament featuring only U.22 players will also serve as a benchmark to assess the capabilities of this generation of players, helping them understand their current standing and build confidence to strive for further progress in the future.
Coach Troussier will make significant changes to the Vietnam U22 team.
Certainly, coach Philippe Troussier will have to make some necessary adjustments, such as the case of Thanh Nhàn, who suffered a sprained ankle and will likely be out for about 3 weeks.
But it seems that coach Troussier wants to be even more decisive in "shuffling the cards," giving opportunities to players who haven't had much playing time after the grueling and exhausting match against U.22 Indonesia.
The first player to be given the opportunity will be Khuat Van Khang, one of the players highly regarded by experts and the public for his progress and contributions to the overall gameplay of the Vietnam U.22 team at the SEA Games 32.
Thanh Nhàn's injury is unfortunate, but it will allow Troussier to experiment from the start with the duo of Văn Đô on the left wing and Văn Khang on the right wing.
Van Tung is leading the scoring charts at the SEA Games 32.
In the center forward position, Troussier will have to consider whether to use Van Tung or give a starting opportunity to Van Truong, the young striker from the Vietnam U.20 team who is very eager to score goals.
At this point, Van Tung has scored 5 goals, leading the scoring charts at the SEA Games 32, but is being closely pursued by Fajar Fathur Rahman (U.22 Indonesia) and Teerasak Poeiphimai (U.22 Thailand), who both have 4 goals.
Therefore, perhaps we will have to wait until the last minute to assess Van Tung's physical condition (he played the full match against U.22 Indonesia) before deciding whether to use him, or to give Van Truong his second start at the SEA Games 32, after the match against U.22 Thailand.
Or take Xuan Tien, who came on in the 71st minute to replace the injured Thanh Nhan, and made a significant contribution to Vietnam U22's 2-2 equalizer against Indonesia U22. He clearly played much more freely in the attacking midfielder role, compared to playing as a central striker, which is not his forte.
The U22 Vietnam team needs a victory to repay the trust and love of the fans.
Another position that coach Troussier will consider is goalkeeper, as Huy Hoang performed well in the match against Thailand U22 and deserves a chance, especially after Van Chuan made some mistakes in the recent semi-final.
In midfield, Le Quoc Nhat Nam, who didn't play a single minute against U.22 Indonesia, will be given a chance in the bronze medal match, which will also be played at 4 PM and will be very physically demanding, alongside Thai Son.
On the right flank, Ho Van Cuong, who was substituted after the first half due to fatigue (he was the only starting player to play the entire match against U.22 Thailand), will be considered for a replacement with Tien Long or midfielder Duc Phu, similar to the second half of the match against U.22 Indonesia.
Coach Troussier certainly needs the abundant physical fitness and desire to prove of the reserve players to inject positive energy into the U22 Vietnam team, helping them overcome the disappointment of the previous defeat and defeat the highly motivated U22 Myanmar team to win a historic medal at the SEA Games.
