On May 31, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the official results of the Vietnam National Team participating in the Asian Informatics Olympiad (APIO) 2024.

APIO 2024 will be hosted by China. The Vietnamese national team has 100% of the participating contestants winning prizes, including: 1 Gold Medal, 6 Silver Medals (in 2023, Vietnam won 4 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals).

Specifically, Pham Cong Minh (grade 12 student), High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi won the Gold Medal.

Of the 6 Silver Medals, 5 winners are from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, including Pham Ngoc Trung, Nguyen Tuan Linh and Tran Gia Huy (12th graders); Nguyen Huu Tuan (10th grader); Hoang Xuan Bach (11th grader).

The remaining silver medal belongs to Nguyen Tung Lam (grade 12 student), Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong City.

The 18th Asian Informatics Olympiad was held from May 18 to 19 with the participation of 35 delegations from countries and territories, with 286 candidates nominated for awards.

Through evaluation, this year's APIO exam is updated with the trend of the International Olympics with new types of questions such as interaction and communication. For each exam, the Vietnamese student delegation had candidates achieving the maximum score, which shows that Vietnamese students have been fully equipped with knowledge content and processing thinking on par with the top students in the region. The Vietnamese delegation achieved the highest score of 240/300.

The Vietnamese national team consists of 15 contestants, taking the exam online at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

According to the regulations, Vietnam is allowed to select 7 candidates with the highest scores to participate in the award.

Overall results of the whole delegation, the Vietnam Informatics Olympic Team ranked 6th after China, Russia, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong (China) and affirmed its leading position among countries in the Southeast Asian region.

Based on the APIO exam results, Vietnam will select 4 candidates to participate in the National Team to compete in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2024 in Egypt from September 1 to 8, 2024.
