More than 1,500 cases of counterfeit goods in a peak month

(Dan Tri) - After a peak month of preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, and fake goods, market management agencies have discovered and handled 3,114 violations with a total fine of more than 63 billion VND.

The Department of Domestic Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) stated that after one month of implementing the peak campaign to prevent and combat smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and intellectual property rights infringement, the market management force nationwide has inspected 3,891 cases.

Authorities have detected and handled 3,114 violations with a total fine of over VND63 billion. Of which, the administrative fine exceeded VND32 billion, confiscated goods were worth nearly VND31 billion and the budget paid nearly VND36 billion. Notably, 26 cases with signs of criminality were transferred to the investigation agency, an increase of 50% compared to the same period last year.

The market management agency said that counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement accounted for the largest proportion with 1,580 cases - equivalent to 52% of the total number of cases, resulting in fines exceeding VND16 billion, followed by 648 smuggling cases, accounting for more than 21%, with fines exceeding VND6 billion.

The peak period recorded many outstanding cases such as the temporary seizure of more than 500 fake products of high-end brands in the center of Da Nang on May 20; the case of a fake sock production facility in La Phu ( Hanoi ) on May 26; the inspection of Saigon Square (HCMC) on May 29, seizing thousands of fake products of famous brands.

In particular, authorities said that an inspection of four cosmetic establishments in Hanoi on June 9 discovered 3,500 smuggled products of unknown origin, demonstrating the complexity and sophistication in mixing counterfeit goods with legal goods.

In addition, special groups of goods such as drugs and functional foods are also closely monitored by management agencies. Particularly for these items, from 2021 to now, market management forces nationwide have handled nearly 1,000 cases, of which 783 cases were related to milk violations.

In the coming time, the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development said that the topics of checking counterfeit goods and goods infringing intellectual property rights will continue to be vigorously implemented.
