More than 300 scholarships for students affected by storms and floods

TPO – Ho Chi Minh City Open University plans to award more than 300 scholarships worth a total of VND1 billion to students in the northern provinces and cities affected by storm Yagi and floods.

On September 16, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha - Rector of Ho Chi Minh City Open University said that the school currently has more than 300 students of all courses residing in the northern provinces and cities affected by storm Yagi and floods.

In order to share, encourage and motivate students to overcome difficulties and continue their studies, the school will award more than 300 scholarships worth a total of 1 billion VND to students in the northern provinces affected by storms and floods.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City Open University will also continue to monitor and take necessary material and spiritual support measures to ensure that students are not interrupted in their studies due to objective factors such as natural disasters and floods.

The scholarship program is aimed at students studying at the school, in the 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 courses, especially those who are in difficult circumstances due to natural disasters and have permanent residence in the northern provinces and cities - areas that suffered heavy damage after storm Yagi including: Hanoi, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai , Hoa Binh, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Son La.

The scholarship will be awarded based on clearly defined criteria, focusing on supporting students in difficult circumstances, affected by natural disasters and epidemics. The scholarship program will be reviewed in September 2024, and is expected to be awarded to eligible students in October 2024.

Many other universities in Ho Chi Minh City also have meaningful activities to contribute and support people affected by storm No. 3. For example, Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities canceled the opening ceremony, and allocated 100 million VND for this program to the fund of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Tran Dinh Ly - Vice Principal said that the school will still hold the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year but announced that they would not accept congratulatory flowers and hoped that the cost of giving flowers would be transferred to the fund to support the Northern compatriots of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to contribute more funds for the compatriots, teachers, students... to overcome the damage caused by the storm.

“At the opening ceremony, once again, the school will continue to launch and call for support and sharing for the people of the North to all delegates, guests, officials, workers and students as the core values that the school is aiming for,” said Mr. Ly.

Meanwhile, at the flag-raising ceremony this morning, many schools in Ho Chi Minh City also organized donations to support people in the North who suffered damage due to storms and floods.
