On August 2 and 5, 1964, Squadron 3, Battalion 135 of Torpedo Boats (the predecessor of Brigade 172, Naval Region 3) bravely drove the American destroyer Maddox out of our country's waters, achieving the first victory of the Vietnam People's Navy and the people of the North. Promoting that tradition of "Determination to Fight - Determination to Win", today generations of officers and soldiers of Brigade 172 have constantly made efforts, strived to train well, and had strict discipline.
