In Vietnam, Tan Nam Sub-border Gate is located in the border marker section 131-132, decided to open by Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee on December 31, 2009 and has been operating smoothly and trading after Tay Ninh Province invested in the construction and put into use Tan Nam - Meun Chey Friendship Bridge on November 30, 2014 with a cost of 44 billion VND. By 2017, implementing Resolution No. 92/NQ-CP of the Government of Vietnam approving the policy of upgrading Tan Nam sub-border gate into an international border gate, Tay Ninh province urgently completed the procedures and on October 25, 2024 issued the order to start construction of the project on an area of 24 hectares with 18 bidding packages in 05 construction items (National Gate; Joint Control Station; Border Control Station; Main route of the border gate, warehouse for import and export of goods, administrative area and complete technical infrastructure system of electricity, water, telecommunications, fire prevention and fighting) according to international border gate standards, with a total investment of 274 billion VND. The border gate is designed with solemn architecture, symbolizing the nation and national identity, ensuring harmony with the natural landscape and local culture, creating a space for sustainable development, a symbol of the precious traditional friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cambodia.

On the Kingdom of Cambodia side, Meun Chey Border Gate is located in Kamchay Mear district, Prey Veng province and was upgraded by the Royal Government of Cambodia to Meun Chey International Border Gate from April 30, 2014 with an area of 9 hectares.

The official opening and development of the Tan Nam - Meun Chey international border gate pair is a concrete step to realize the development vision agreed upon by the two countries' senior leaders, connecting the two economies of Vietnam and Cambodia, facilitating trade and tourism activities of the people and businesses of the two countries. At the same time, it is an important strategic step to complete the border gate infrastructure system, logistics network, and inter-modal transport between Vietnam and Cambodia; aiming to become a transit point for wider connection to ASEAN countries in the future through the regional road network. In addition, the Tan Nam - Meun Chey international border gate will play the role of an important "gateway" for cooperation and exchange, creating new development momentum for Tay Ninh and Prey Veng provinces, as well as neighboring localities; promoting the formation of new cooperation spaces, further connecting the community in the border area; At the same time, it contributes to ensuring security and order, more effective border management, and meeting the interests and aspirations of the people of the two countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee Le Van Han said that in 2025, the import and export turnover at the Tan Nam - Meun Chey border gate pair reached over 346 million USD, an increase of 69.2 times compared to 2021 (in 2021 it was about 5 million USD), showing that the agreement of the two Governments to upgrade the Tan Nam - Meun Chey international border gate pair is a strategic vision, maximizing the potential and advantages in promoting trade and import and export of goods between the two countries and certainly after the official opening, the import and export turnover will continue to increase.

Currently, Tay Ninh has 04 international land border gates (Moc Bai, Xa Mat, Binh Hiep, Tan Nam), these will be the "links" for Tay Ninh to promote its potential, exploit the maximum advantages of border gate economy, become a new growth driver, this is the foundation for the province to develop a multi-center border gate economic model, not dependent on one point, but creating an overall momentum for the entire border line with the "border gate quadrilateral" Moc Bai - Xa Mat - Binh Hiep - Tan Nam, with 04 main border gates, 13 secondary border gates, Tay Ninh is facing a historic turning point in border gate economic development, creating new and more sustainable sources of revenue; will be an important premise and have profound economic and political significance, promoting cooperation and comprehensive development in the fields of investment, trade, tourism, becoming a transit center for goods between Cambodia and international ports in Ho Chi Minh City, with the Southeast region, the Mekong Delta and vice versa; At the same time, it will promote cultural exchange and people-to-people diplomacy, consolidate, foster and deepen the traditional friendship, solidarity and good neighborliness between Vietnam and Cambodia in general and Tay Ninh province with Prey Veng province and other provinces of the Kingdom of Cambodia in particular.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully thanked Samdech Thipadei, Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Government, ministries, branches, authorities and people of Cambodia in general and Prey Veng province in particular, for their unanimity, support and close coordination with Vietnam to complete the upgrading of the pair of border gates. The Prime Minister also affirmed that Vietnam and Cambodia are two close neighbors, with adjacent mountains and rivers, both in the lower Mekong region; both peoples have many similarities, both originating from the rice civilization with a long history in the Southeast Asian region. For nearly 6 decades since the official establishment of diplomatic relations, the relationship of "good neighbors, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, long-term sustainability" between Vietnam and Cambodia has steadfastly overcome many challenges and has been increasingly nurtured, consolidated and developed continuously, the people of the two countries "share the sweet and the bitter", helping each other.

The Prime Minister also believes that Tan Nam - Meun Chey border gate will become a model international border gate leading in digital transformation, smart, civilized, modern, bringing prosperity, warmth, happiness to people in the border area, contributing to making the Vietnam - Cambodia border area truly become a "security belt - friendship bridge - growth engine - people's support" of the two countries and contributing to consolidating the environment of peace, stability, cooperation and rapid, sustainable development in the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also said that the official operation of the Tan Nam - Meun Chey international border gate pair is a clear demonstration of the goodwill, unity in approach and determination to cooperate between Cambodia and Vietnam, joining hands to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development, a border of trade, exchange of goods and services and a border of development, serving the lives of the people of the two countries in general and the two localities in particular. In the coming time, other international border gates will be upgraded or newly established, along with the infrastructure that has been and is being built and upgraded, which will serve and actively support production activities and connect cooperation, investment, tourism, the flow of goods, agricultural products and people's travel.
