This afternoon, July 30th, the Ministry of National Defence , the Border Guard Command, and the People's Committee of Quang Tri province jointly organized an awards ceremony to recognize achievements in the fight against drug crimes by the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard in Special Case QT524. Deputy Commander of the Border Guard, Major General Nguyen Van Thien; and Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, attended the ceremony.

Previously, at 10:50 PM on July 23, 2024, at the Dung Tai guesthouse in Tay Chin hamlet, Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri Border Guard forces caught Nguyen Yen Nhi (born in 2005), residing in Ngoc Chau ward, Hai Duong city, Hai Duong province, in the act of illegally possessing and transporting narcotics. The seized evidence included 15 kg of Ketamine and 2 kg of "happy water" powder.
Continuing the investigation based on Nhi's confession, the task force seized an additional 40 blocks of heroin and 9 small packets of "happy water" powder that Nhi had previously stored in room 105 of the Dung Tai guesthouse. Expanding the investigation, the Border Guard of Binh Dinh province coordinated with the Lao police to arrest two more individuals involved in this drug ring: Hoang Trung Hieu (born in 1992), residing in Tan Loc village, My Loc commune, Phu My district, Binh Dinh province; and Tran Thi Thanh Dung (born in 1982), residing in Dien Phuoc commune, Dien Ban district, Quang Nam province, while they were hiding in the Densavan village area, Sepon district (Laos).

To encourage officers and soldiers of the Border Guard and other forces participating in the fight against Special Case QT524, the Head of the Steering Committee 1389 of the Ministry of National Defense awarded certificates of merit and cash bonuses to the Anti-Drug and Crime Prevention Department, the Lao Bao International Border Gate Border Guard Station, and the Special Reconnaissance Team of the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard, each receiving 20 million VND. The Border Guard Command awarded a cash bonus of 50 million VND to the Special Case Team and forces participating in Special Case QT524 under the Quang Tri Provincial Border Guard Command.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Ha Sy Dong, acknowledged and praised the achievements of the QT524 Special Task Force; he highly appreciated the close coordination between the functional forces of Vietnam and Laos in carrying out the special task force. He also expressed his hope that the officers and soldiers of the Provincial Border Guard would continue to uphold the tradition of solidarity and closely cooperate with functional units in effectively carrying out drug prevention and control tasks in particular, and other political and professional tasks in general. He urged them to do well in foreign relations and gather information to promptly prevent all types of crimes. He requested the Border Guard Command to continue to pay attention to and coordinate with the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to better direct the fight against drug trafficking, especially in border areas, contributing to the protection of local security and order.
