Present at the ceremony, 18-year-old swimmer Trinh Truong Vinh shared: “This is the first time I have attended the flag-raising ceremony. I feel very honored, moved and proud to be in the ranks of TTVN at this important event. From then on, I am even more determined to compete better, contributing with my teammates to the success of TTVN.”
Not only is it a ritual marking the official presence of each delegation at the congress, the flag-raising ceremony at the 33rd SEA Games also has a deeper meaning, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, friendship and the aspiration to build a peaceful , stable and sustainable ASEAN community.
When the national flags of Southeast Asian countries flutter together to the majestic music, it is a vivid symbol of the spirit of “One vision, one identity, one community” that ASEAN has repeatedly affirmed in its joint statements.

Since the first Southeast Asian Games (in 1959) until now, the SEA Games have always been considered a forum for unity rather than competition, where sports become a bridge between nations. The flag-raising ceremony, therefore, is a moment to evoke a sense of pride, while also reminding us of our shared responsibility to foster peace, mutual understanding and sustainable development in the region.
This is also the consistent spirit of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, aiming for a cohesive, inclusive region that respects cultural diversity and promotes humanitarian cooperation among nations.
For the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, the moment the national flag was raised in Bangkok was not only a matter of national pride, but also a commitment to continue accompanying ASEAN in promoting peace and friendship through sports.
Each athlete participating in the SEA Games not only represents the Vietnamese flag, but also contributes to spreading the spirit of solidarity across the region. This is the spirit that has, is and will continue to create a strong, prosperous and aspirational ASEAN.
For the athletes and coaches stationed in Chonburi, the second flag-raising ceremony is scheduled to be held on December 11 at Wyndham Jomtien (Pattaya, Chonburi, Thailand).
