
Candidates taking the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam

This afternoon (December 5), Ho Chi Minh City National University held a conference to summarize the virtual filtering work of the southern group and organize the 2025 capacity assessment exam, and at the same time deploy the 2026 plan.
Speaking at the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Cao Vinh, Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the 2025 competency assessment exam attracted more than 152,000 candidates, over 223,000 registrations at 55 testing sites in 25 provinces/cities across the country. The value and reliability of the exam continued to be consolidated and improved, demonstrated through a stable score range and good differentiation ability. In terms of expertise, the exam structure was adjusted according to the 2018 General Education program; enhancing the assessment of thinking ability, analysis, synthesis and problem-solving ability; the scientific thinking section was designed in conjunction with practical situations, thereby measuring reasoning ability and encouraging critical and creative thinking.
In 2025, this exam will be used by 111 universities in enrollment. In the Ho Chi Minh City National University system alone, this method accounts for about 56.32% of the target. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Vinh affirmed that the 2025 competency assessment exam is an enrollment method that is trusted and accepted by society, demonstrating the innovation, professionalism and strategic vision of this University in university enrollment.
Regarding the orientation of the 2026 exam, the Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University said that he will continue to improve the technical quality and ensure safety and security for the exam. Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City National University will organize two exam sessions before the high school graduation exam, and at the same time expand the exam location to create the most favorable conditions for candidates; maintain the exam structure, continue to improve and perfect the content of the exam questions towards international standards, ensuring reliability and high classification ability; strengthen supervision and fraud prevention; strongly apply technology in exam supervision and grading to improve accuracy and transparency.
"The goal is that each exam must be safe, serious, transparent, and at the same time friendly, providing maximum support to candidates and helping training institutions select suitable, quality candidates," Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Vinh emphasized.
Timeline for organizing the 2026 competency assessment exam
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assessment (Ho Chi Minh City National University), informed about the official exam schedule and timeline for the 2026 competency assessment exam. Accordingly, the first round of the exam will be held on April 5, 2026 and the second round will be held on May 24, 2026 .
The specific timelines are as follows:

This exam in 2026 will continue to be held at the same locations as in 2025, specifically in 15 provinces/cities (according to the provincial administrative units after the merger), including: Ho Chi Minh City, Hue City, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, An Giang , Can Tho and Ca Mau.
Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh said the center will closely coordinate with units participating in organizing the exam, increase exchanges, guidance and supervision to ensure that staff participating in the organization properly implement the regulations and procedures of the exam, minimize errors and prevent the recurrence of violations that have occurred.
At the same time, the center will review, supplement and complete the system of regulations, procedures, documents and forms related to the organization of the exam. The collection of comments from coordinating units is expected to be carried out in mid-December 2025, to ensure consistency and feasibility in implementation.
The set of regulations and documents guiding the organization of the official exam will be submitted for approval and promulgated by the end of 2025, serving as the basis for preparing and organizing the Ho Chi Minh City National University's competency assessment exam in 2026.
