Due to heavy rain, four households near Mang Ka Muong mountain (Son Bao commune, Son Ha district, Quang Ngai province) have been relocated, while several roads in Quang Ngai city are deeply flooded.
Over the past 24 hours, Quang Ngai province has experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving even heavier amounts, such as Tra Phu (152mm), Tra Nham (Tra Bong district) (166mm), and Son Mua (Son Tay district) (153mm).
On the evening of October 8th, heavy rain was falling in Son Bao commune (Son Ha district, Quang Ngai province), posing a high risk of landslides on Mang Ka Muong mountain in Nuoc Tang village, Son Bao commune.
The People's Committee of Son Bao commune has encouraged four households in the landslide-prone area to temporarily stay with relatives to ensure their safety.
In the coming period, people are advised to limit their movement in this area to ensure safety.
During an inspection on October 3rd by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai province, cracks in the Mang Ka Muong mountain are showing signs of spreading in an arc shape. Initially, the cracks only slid 1.5m, but now they are 2-2.3m or more.
From the point along Highway 77 to the mountaintop, there are cracks up to 60m long, some sections 45m, and horizontal cracks in the mountainside, directly affecting more than 1,500m² of land.
* On the evening of October 8th, heavy rain lasting for several hours caused severe flooding on some roads in Quang Ngai city.
Streets in the center of Quang Ngai City such as Quang Trung, Tran Hung Dao, Hung Vuong, Phan Dinh Phung, Phan Chu Trinh, Nguyen Nghiem, and Vo Thi Sau were flooded.
According to Mr. Nham Xuan Sy, Director of the Quang Ngai Provincial Meteorological and Hydrological Station, moderate to heavy rain will continue in the coming hours in Quang Ngai province. The total rainfall will generally range from 40mm to 120mm, with some areas exceeding 150mm.
"The heavy rainfall could cause flash floods and landslides in areas with weak terrain, construction sites on mountain slopes, and localized flooding on roads and low-lying areas," Mr. Sy said.
