US First Lady Jill Biden announced that the Pentagon will spend $500 million annually to advance research on women's health.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative, Jill Biden announced that the funds would be used to research arthritis, chronic fatigue, and women's cardiovascular health.
The U.S. Department of Defense statement highlighted the importance of the investment in meeting the critical needs of approximately 230,000 active-duty female service members, 2 million retired female service members, and their family members.
Compared to men, this population group has twice the incidence of hematological, urological, endocrine, nutritional, and immunological diseases.
This is also seen as an attempt by the Democratic Party to attract support from female voters in the US presidential election this November.
