(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Tran Quang Hung - class 12A8, Ngo Quyen High School, Ba Vi - is the only student from the outskirts of Hanoi to win a national award this year.

Among the 21 students from outside Hanoi's specialized high school who will be part of the national gifted student team for the 2024-2025 school year, Tran Quang Hung is the only representative from a suburban school.

Of the 20 members of the physics team, Hung is one of only two students who are not majoring in physics. The other member, Hoang Pham Minh Khanh, attends the prestigious private school Newton Secondary School. Previously, Khanh led the Vietnamese team in achievements at the 2023 International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) with a silver medal.

Tran Quang Hung scored 19 points, winning third prize. This is the first time Ngo Quyen High School (Ba Vi) has had a student win a national award in cultural subjects. This school is among those with the lowest entrance exam scores in Hanoi, with an average passing score of less than 5 points per subject.

In this year's national high school student excellence competition, Hanoi had 21 students from non-specialized schools participating. Fifteen of them won awards.

Specifically, out of 5 students from Newton School who participated in the competition, 4 won prizes: 1 second prize, 1 third prize, and 1 honorable mention in mathematics, and 1 second prize in physics.

Nguyen Gia Thieu High School had 3 students participating in the competition, and 2 of them won second prize in Chinese.

The Japan International Middle and High School had 3 students participating in the competition, and 2 of them received honorable mentions.

Hoang Long High School, Phan Huy Chu High School (Dong Da District), and Viet Duc High School each had one student participating in the competition, and all won prizes: Second Prize, Third Prize, and Honorable Mention in Japanese, respectively.

Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary and High School had one student who participated in the Chinese language competition and won third prize.

Doan Thi Diem Secondary and High School had one student who participated in the biology competition and won third prize.

Tran Hung Dao High School in Ha Dong had one student participate in the Russian language competition and win third prize.

For the 14th consecutive year, Hanoi has led the country in the number of national awards, with 200 out of 260 students winning prizes. However, Hanoi's award-winning rate is not among the top 10 provinces and cities nationwide.
