According to the Central Vietnam Power Corporation, recently there have been many individuals impersonating power company employees to scam people.
These individuals typically call or send messages via Zalo or SMS, informing people about problems with their electricity bills, such as overdue payments, large outstanding amounts, or technical errors in the system, demanding immediate payment or their electricity will be cut off.
They use caller ID spoofing technology, so the phone number appears as if it were the official number of the electricity company to increase the credibility of the call and easily gain the victim's trust; or they provide fake bank account numbers, links, or QR codes designed with the electricity company's logo for people to access and make payments. If people enter their bank account information, OTP codes, or other personal information, their money and information will be stolen.
In response to this situation, Phu Yen Power Company affirms that the power sector does not collect payments via Zalo or SMS messages, warning people not to pay electricity bills through these channels. Payments should only be made through methods recognized by the power company, such as banking applications, e-wallets, and the power sector's customer service app. In case of any suspicion regarding a call or message, please contact the power company immediately to verify the information before making the payment as requested.
