Within the framework of his state visit to Vietnam, to attend the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, this afternoon, First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and his wife laid flowers at the statue of the Cuban international soldier and visited the Vietnam Military History Museum.

The statue of the Cuban international soldier, created by sculptor Le Dinh Bao, had its name plate attached by the Ministry of National Defense on August 29.

First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his honor when visiting the Vietnam Military History Museum and was moved when laying flowers at the Statue of the Cuban International Soldier.

The Cuban leader shared that Vietnam's victories in the resistance wars have become an example for Cuba. Both the Cuban and Vietnamese peoples are fighting for peace, prosperity and happiness for their people.

He mentioned leader Fidel Castro when he visited the liberated zone of South Vietnam in Quang Tri in 1973; General Raúl Castro's affection for Vietnam and Uncle Ho.

Mr. Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed his sincere gratitude for the assistance of the Party, State and people of Vietnam in the context of Cuba's difficulties.

He said that since General Secretary To Lam's state visit to Cuba in September 2024, which had historic significance for Vietnam-Cuba relations, the two countries have jointly built a number of projects to strengthen cooperation.

Writing in the museum's guestbook, he wrote: "At this Military History Museum, a testament to the heroism and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people, on behalf of the Party, Government and people of Cuba, we would like to express our gratitude to the generations who have devoted their lives to the cause of liberation, independence and defense of the Fatherland.

Vietnam's historic actions are an inspiration to Cuba because we share a common aspiration for sovereignty and social justice.

Paying tribute and remembering the fallen Cuban soldiers, we recall the sacrifice and brotherly solidarity enshrined in the iconic words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz: 'For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give its own blood'. Long live the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's Declaration of Independence!

At the Vietnam Military History Museum, many Vietnamese people shook hands and welcomed First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel and his wife.
